The second mono pressing is in wonderful condition and plays with excellent/near mint audio as detailed below.

Mono 2/2 second mono pressing on Yellow/Black label.  'The Gramophone Co. Ltd' etc printed around the perimeter edge and 'Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions' also on labels.

Small 'Mono' on front of E.J. Day cover with Dr. Robert credit on the cover and Doctor Robert on the label, the earliest variation known on a second pressing.  KT tax code stamp on S1 label.

 Visual grading

  This is certainly one of the best preserved second press vinyls of this album I have seen in a long time.  There are only a small number of faint hairlines with only three that you would say are more obvious to the eye.  There are no scratches and hasn't been excessively played due to the amount of spindle wear that can be seen.  A very clean vinyl that still retains a lovely glossy sheen after all these years, a fine example.

Play grading

S1 has very impressive audio for a 52 year old record and has no clicks or pops at all.  'Taxman' begins proceedings with excellent sound and no obvious 'background' at all.  'Eleanor Rigby' is a good example of the clarity on offer here and plays so clearly for a relatively quiet song.  There is only a hint of mega light static here and there but it is certainly not intrusive.  What follows is a superb version of 'I'm Only Sleeping', the lack of any interference is tangible, high quality audio indeed.  'Love You To' also plays very clearly with only a minimal amount of quiet static on the intro.  There is a little more static perhaps on 'Here, There And Everywhere' but again it is very much in the background allowing this classic to shine.  The iconic 'Yellow Submarine' plays to a very high standard and the clarity again is very impressive for a record of this age.  With hardly any 'background' it couldn't play much better to be honest.  'She Said She Said' has a little static/distortion on the top level but this is always found on this final track.  Very possibly due to it being a louder track being played through a stereo system.  No clicks or pops again though.

'Good Day Sunshine' is super impressive and displays wonderful clarity with no obvious 'background' at all.  This quality continues throughout S2 and 'For No One' is a stunning example of this.  Another quiet track it plays with great depth and clarity and with absolutely nothing to detract from what is a wonderful listen.  The final two tracks 'Got To Get You Into My Life' and 'Tomorrow Never Knows' both play incredibly well for two louder tracks and with hardly any of the distortion that is so often prevalent.  Just a little background static on the former here and there but again totally non-intrusive.

In summary this second pressing plays with very impressive audio indeed.  There are no clicks or pops during the music which is very rare on an album of this age, just a couple in the dead wax between tracks.  Coupled with a lovely cover this would not disappoint any Beatles fan.   

Cover

The E.J. Day laminated cover is in excellent condition with very little shelf wear.  The edges have no rubbing and are beautifully clean and the thin pinched spine is in great shape with only a couple of tiny rub marks and remains 100% legible.  The corners have hardly any wear with only one very small crease on the bottom right corner.  The laminated front cover (with small mono) is very clean with no splits or lifts although there is one small bend towards the bottom left.  The opening edge has very little handling wear and really is in great condition for its age.  The back cover is extremely clean and the flipbacks are among the best I have ever seen on such an early pressing.  With barely any staining they only have a couple of small creases and don't get much better than this!  Overall a lovely cover that has been extremely well preserved.

Inner sleeve

The original Emitex sleeve has no splits or tears only some light creasing here and there.

The labels

The yellow/black Parlophone labels have no marking or writing and whilst there is some spindle wear there is definitely not a massive amount.  The KT tax code is on the S1 label.

I grade according to "Record Collector" guidelines.
