THE BEATLES REVOLVER 606-1 RAREST KNOWN VARIANT

Hi all!

Here's perhaps the rarest variant of The Beatles 1966 "Revolver" album available. Not only is it the withdrawn mono "606-1" Side 2 version containing the remix 11 of 'Tomorrow Never Knows' (The track that laid the foundation for The Beatles redefinition of popular music), but also it is the very coveted "ridged label" of which only a very few are known to exist.

Originally believed to be a Decca contract pressing, Beatles vinyl specialists are now of the general opinion that several copies of this album were pressed on a rogue early EMI machine. Whereas there are documented 606-2 versions of this album in circulation, there has only ever been 1 other copy of this "606-1" variant auctioned on ebay (to my knowledge), and needless to say, it did very well indeed!

Condition:

Please note, in an effort to give the best description possible, I have noted everything that I can see when I look at the item. Please do not misconstrue these as major issues, I just choose to offer all the information that I can to potential bidders:

Sleeve: The original "Garrod & Lofthouse" Patents pending sleeve is fully intact without any writing, staining or tears. The spine is clean and legible. The powdery back photo is dark and rubbing is minimal. There is minor foxing and feathering to the sleeve edge and some tiny creases to the extremities of the cover. Minimal ringwear can just be perceived to both sides. Light (visible only when angled) crease to top front right. Has started to brown a little due to time. "DR. ROBERT" listed side 2, track 4. Small "mono" lettering. Overal a healthy VG+/EX- (Please see photos)

Inner: White Emitex bag with see-thru window to the label both sides. Some creasing/ringwear where the record has settled. No tears/writing. Starting to brown a little due to natural aging. VG+/EX-

Labels: Both labels are crisp, clear and fully legible. There is no evidence of rubbing or damage. There are no writing/stickers/residue or loss of colour. There are some light spider trails to spindle holes on both sides, but these are very light and none have worn through to the paper. Side 2 states "DR. ROBERT". "KT" Tax stamp to side 2. EX

Vinyl: The vinyl maintains much of its original sheen/reflectivity. There are a few light, superficial needle marks to both sides, none of which are feelable. Vinyl appears to be free of grease spots/fingermarks and generally looks to have been well looked after by original owner. There is a tiny (barely perceivable) lift while the album rotates - nothing serious, I mention it solely for completeness. VG+/EX-

Side 1 : 7(?) at 9 o'clock  A0 at 3 o'clock

Side 2: 1 at 9 o'clock  AT at 3 o'clock

Playback: Important! I have not in any way attempted to clean this record. I have chosen to leave this to persons more experienced than myself:

Side 1: Side 1 plays through without sticking, skipping or jumping. Sound quality is loud and clear throughout with nice trebles and clear bass. There is a light click on the track "Love You To" and also a few bars into "Yellow Submarine" I cannot physically see any problem with the vinyl that could be causing this, and would hope that a deep groove clean may improve the sound quality in this area. Side 2: Side 2 plays through without sticking, skipping or jumping. Sound quality, again, nice and clear (Pauls' Bass really cuts through the mix!), occasional light pop (again, probably down to needing a proper clean- it has been 45 years!)
