Hi, up for auction here is a nice L.P. This is the very first pressing of The Beatles - Revolver 'Mono' Catalogue # PMC 7009. from August 1966. It has the yellow and black Parlophone labels and silver print for the song titles, sides, etc. This has the rare ‘remix’ of Tomorrow Never Knows which I’m told was altered on all subsequent pressings. - It also has the abbreviated ‘DR’ on the label for ‘DOCTOR ROBERT’.

The matrix numbers on the run out groove on side 1 is: XEX 605 - 2.  On side 2 is: XEX 606 - 1

The ‘stampers’ read as follows: Side 1. (9 o clock position) ‘1’ (3 o clock position)  ‘GM’

Side 2. (9 o clock position) ‘2’ (3 o clock position)  ‘GR’ (The ‘R’ is quite faint though and it almost looks like a musical note due to the bottom horizontal stroke of the ‘R’ being very faint.)

‘K’ & ’ T’ embossed on either side of the spindle hole on side 2.

I’m not a Beatles expert, I’m simply going on what other people have told me about this album. I will say this is a ‘local’ record. :)  It has a very small sticker on the bottom left corner of the back of the sleeve which reads: Sold by Boots The Chemists (Eastern) Limited. High Street and Pelham Street Nottingham. The sticker is located on the ‘flap’ directly below the ‘£’ logo.

As for the condition of both record & sleeve, I’m no expert – but on a purely visual basis I’d say they’re excellent /very good +. The Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve really is excellent in my opinion. NO ringwear front or back. The spine is near perfect - no splits, or wear evident. ‘ Revolver -The Beatles’ is 100% perfect and the spine retains good ‘square’ shape - no crushing or distortion with the very top & bottom spine edges going ’rounder’ where they should near the flaps Top and bottom edges are just as good. Not a hint of wear and corners are very strong.

There IS some burring along the length of both sides of the opening edges. Lamination on front is superb. One slight ’bubble’ on the very top edge about ½” from the ’mono’ logo. There’s another (almost) ‘C’ shaped one around the small shot of John where he’s sticking out of the hair of the drawing of George. Back is also in good shape. A few very faint and small water droplet stains. A tiny piece of lamination missing from the flap on the edge level with Paul’s left arm - pretty insignificant but I wanted to mention it. Overall, I’d rate the sleeve at a firm 7/7.5 out of 10.

The inner sleeve is plain white paper with the usual ‘PATENTS APPLIED FOR’ on the bottom left & ‘MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN’ on the bottom right on the ‘flap’ side. This is also in excellent condition, no splits or repairs whatsoever. A few minor creases on the top edge and mild sepia toning. Again a firm 7.5 out of 10 for condition

The vinyl itself looks to be in very good shape. As I mentioned, I’m no expert, but this record would definitely benefit from a good professional ‘clean’. I haven’t got the ‘tools’/equipment to do this - so I’m leaving that well alone for the winning bidder. The record lies perfectly flat – no warps. Some fairly substantial spindle marks can be seen on both sides when turned to the light. However, there’s little sign of wear on the ink.

Vinyl is still shiny  Some surface marks are there and are to be expected I guess. The only 1 semi significant scratches looks to be finger-nail style scratch. This is on side 1 at the beginning of track 4 and looks to be about 3mm long. Overall, I’d give it a critical 7 out of 10.

In closing I’d say this is a used, but definitely NOT abused item and in a better condition than some I’ve seen recently. The sleeve and record belong to each other and haven’t’ been ‘cobbled ‘ together to upgrade.
