An overall impressive copy of this increasingly scarce and sought after 1966 UK 1st press Beatles classic on the PARLOPHONE label, mono PMC 7009

 Matrix Numbers :

Side 1  XEX 605 - 2 with stampers "1" and "G D 1.1" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

Side 2  XEX 606 - 3 with stampers "4" and "P A" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

The appearance of the heavy duty vinyl is excellent-. Completely flat with beautiful, jet black lacquered sheen and clean, clearly defined grooves throughout. In normal daylight each side of the vinyl appears truly excellent with just a few very light scuffs just visible; under a bright light and tilted at the right angle there are more small light scuffs and wispy hairlines that come into view but nothing nasty here at all and I could not detect anything below the surface, which is borne out by a complete lack of any clicks on play back. Very nice. 

The labels are each VG+. There are just a few faint (but noticeable) spindle trails adjacent to each of the centre holes with one stray spindle trail (very faint) on each label almost reaching the circumference of the label. The raised "K" and "T" tax codes are clearly visible on the side 2 label.

The iconic, front-side laminated Garrod & Lofthouse outer sleeve is excellent-. There is no scuffing or rubbing on any of the edges, including the spine, each of which remains rigid and completely devoid of any creasing - amazing! Similarly each corner remains a near perfect right angle with barely any rubbing. There is no fraying on the opening edges. The photos and colouring on the front remain rich and and crystal clear although there is some very mild vertical age discolouration adjacent to the spine, and on the reverse side the flip backs are in excellent shape and remain fully functional with no blemishes at all. There is just the hint of a couple of small areas on the reverse side which have faded a little (I'm being really picky now) but there is no unwanted writing or doodles. All in all, amazing condition considering this is 51 years of age!

Finally, the quality of the audio is VG+. Just a little, very mild background static/crackle during some of the quieter moments and at the beginning of each side but nothing really intrusive and I'm sure that a professional clean would go at least some way to remedying this. Lovely tone and clarity throughout with no distortion at all. No clicks, pops, or skips. Just great music making for a great listen.

Comes with original "USE EMITEX"die-cut, polythene lined inner which itself is in great condition with no tears or splits and remains 100% functional. Note that I supply an additional plain white inner with every record that I sell to help minimise the risk of damage to the original inner (some of which are themselves collectables) as a matter of course.

A lovely copy, certainly VG+ but I'm sure that many would grade as "excellent", of this iconic album.

But inevitably opinions and descriptions are always prone to some subjectivity, and opinions and what constitutes "Near mint" or "Excellent" can sometimes differ. On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Descriptions of any records I sell comply with the Rare Record Price Guide grading guidelines :

Mint

Description: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

Description: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packag­ing might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good

Description: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable sur­face marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

Description: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair 

Description: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for prop­erly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor

Description: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

Description: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
