THE BEATLES - RUBBER SOUL (1965 UK 1ST MONO PRESSING - "LOUD CUT")
Up for auction/sale is a rare, mega-collectible true first UK mono pressing of The Beatles' masterpiece Rubber Soul, released on December 3, 1965.
This copy features the legendary "-1" matrix endings on both sides (the notorious "Loud Cut" variant).
Shortly after release, EMI stopped production on these initial cuts because the heavy bass mix caused needles to skip on standard 1960s record players, replacing it with the smoother "-4" mix. This makes the initial "-1" pressing highly sought-after by audiophiles and Beatles completists.

Side 1 Matrix: XEX 579-1 (Stamped in deadwax)
Side 2 Matrix: XEX 580-1 (Stamped in deadwax)
Tax Code: Embossed KT tax code present around the spindle hole area.
Labels: Original Yellow & Black Parlophone labels with "The Gramophone Co. Ltd." perimeter text and "Sold in U.K." resale text.
Features the rare Sans-Serif font variation.
Cover: Original Garrod & Lofthouse (G&L) front-laminated flipback sleeve.
Inner Sleeve: Includes original "Use Emitex" protective inner sleeve.
Vinyl: [VG] – Heavy, high-quality 1960s EMI wax. Shows some light surface paper scuffs/hairlines under direct light, but retains much of its original factory gloss.
Labels: Clean overall with some visible spindle wear around the center hole, consistent with regular play.
No major tears or ink marks.
Sleeve: [VG] – Front lamination is shiny with minor edge creasing. The flipbacks on the reverse are fully intact.
Shows minor age-related yellowing/foxing on the un-laminated back panel, but overall solid with a readable spine.
The Matrix Stamp: Photos of the dead wax explicitly show XEX 579-1 and XEX 580-1 stamped into the runout vinyl.
The -1 code represents the original, first-batch lacquer discs cut directly from the master tapes by EMI engineers in late November 1965.
The "Loud Cut" History:
This initial batch was mastered with an incredibly heavy, booming bass mix.
Within days of production, EMI realized the heavy grooves were causing cheap 1960s record player needles to skip. They quickly halted production, recalled the master plates, and re-cut the audio with compressed bass (creating the much more common -4 matrix mix). The -1 copy survived that initial recall.
The KT Stamp & Sleeve: The embossed KT tax code on the label and the Garrod & Lofthouse front-laminated flipback jacket with the mono PMC 1267 text on the rear match up identically with the first manufacturing run from December 1965.
This version was only manufactured for a very brief window before the audio mix was permanently altered, it is a highly prized "first edition" piece of music history.
