The Beatles : Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 1/1 1st Mono press (Wide Spine)
This first mono pressing is in superb condition and plays to a very high standard. There is only a little static here and there but no loud clicks or pops.
This is one of the earliest first pressings as it it has only two stampers on each side and that the gatefold is the 'wide spine' version. This is the rarer cover and hence more collectable and it is one of the finest examples I have ever seen! It is so clean and strong and has been remarkably well preserved down the years.
It comes complete with a stunning red 'fool' inner and cut out card insert.

Play grading
S1 plays with excellent clarity from start to finish. There is very are no loud clicks or pops and the only background is some light static here and there. It is only minor and not intrusive in my opinion. I have played every track in its entirety and I can guarantee much of the side plays with stunning quality. 'With A Little Help From My Friends' and 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds' are prime examples of that. They are Near Mint with the latter only having a couple of gentle ticks on the fade out. The remaining tracks again play with very impressive clarity with only minimal light static for company. 'Getting Better' has only the lightest of static and grades as Ex+ and then 'Fixing A Hole' goes one better and grades as Near Mint such is the clarity on offer here. 'She's Leaving Home' has a little more static but you always find this on the mono pressings as any Beatles' audiophile will know, you cannot escape it! It still plays very well and there are no clicks or pops. The final track '...Mr. Kite' plays very well for a final track with only light static. For such an early first pressing the audio definition on this side is very impressive, not perfect but a great listen for sure.
S2 is of a very similar quality. 'Within You Without You' plays with wonderful clarity and only the lightest of static. There is just a touch more on 'When I'm Sixty-Four' plus one light tick but the audio is still very clear. 'Lovely Rita' is faultless and plays with superb precision. 'Good Morning, Good Morning' is also nigh on perfect with just the usual light static on the intro and the 'high octane' bass heavy intro on the 'Sgt. Pepper's...' reprise is absolutely stunning! It continues to play with Near Mint quality and the intro on the classic 'A Day In The Life' could hardly play any better. The opening verses have barely any static and as it builds the playback is very strong with no distortion. From then on it plays so well and whilst there is a minor touch of light static this could well be reduced when played as a mono record. I have a stereo system but I must stress this static is only very minimal. The final crescendo section is stunning and the long final piano note has only a little static. The 'nonsense' track at the end of the run out grooves plays very well indeed! Overall S2 plays with great quality and only minimal intrusion.
Visual grading
The vinyl is in excellent condition and whilst there is some spindle wear it has been very well looked after. There are no scratches or major marks. At first glance it is very clean and it is only on closer inspection that you can detect a number of faint hairlines but they have very little affect on the sound quality, if any. There is one very faint 'squiggly' mark on S2 but again this does not affect the audio. Overall an impressive looking early pressing.
The Gatefold
The G & L mono cover is in lovely condition and is definitely one of the finest 'wide spine' versions I have ever seen. As you can see from the photos the wide spine is in superb order with no real shelf wear - there is only minimal wear on the top corner, very minimal! The only other corner with some light rubbing is the one bottom right on the front cover. The top and bottom edges have no wear either and the opening edges are incredibly clean with barely any handling wear. The laminated front cover is beautiful! It has no laminate damage and only 3/4 very light creases lower right that you can only see when you hold it at a certain angle. There is just one tiny area of laminate The back cover is equally as good with only a handful of small creases next to the spine. The inside of the gatefold is in fantastic condition with no wear as such, just some minor creasing around the inner spine. There is no marking and the top flipbacks remain very clean. The colour remain strong and vibrant as they do on the front and back cover and this is without doubt a stunning early 'wide spine' cover. It would be difficult to find better!
The 'Fool' Inner Sleeve & Cut Out Card
The original inner red 'fool' psychedelic inner is in superb condition with no side splits, how rare is that! It has only a small number of minor 'spots', a hint of ringwear and only minimal creasing. The cut out card is near perfect with only a faint 'crease' line down the left side.
The Labels
The yellow/black Parlophone labels have no marking or writing, just some spindle wear as stated. The KT tax code is stamped on the S1 label.
