Master Matrices XEX 637-1 / XEX 638-1

The Sleeve: 1st & original Flipback sleeve in Very Good Condition Plus.

Has maintained an overall very good shape, well defined edges with no fraying to the lamination and spine corners are not worn,  the two opening sides are completely level and neat. No creasing or ring wear on the front panel, inside, or rear panel, which is very rare to find. All flipbacks fully intact, all lamination present with no denting/ lifting and there is no laminate fraying down the centre line inside the gatefold.

No splits or rips, spine and inner partition fully intact holding all inserts in place, and title text clear and bold on the outside. The iconic front photo is unblemished, and still retains its colour with no fading or marks. Inside the photo spread of the Fab Four is excellent and very clean all over, and the back panel is bright red with bold lyrics, very light wear along one fold-over edge inside, otherwise are neat and clean with no edge fraying - very hard to find like this.

No sticker or sticker residue, and no writing or writing imprints.

Printed & made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd

Inner Sleeve : The original Fools Psychedelic inner sleeve inside is in a Very Good Plus condition and fully functional with no edge splits and intact at all fold seams and all edges. Some record impression marks.

This has the original Dark Green Cut-Out card used in the 60's: Excellent Condition. No creases, no ring wear, no marks.

The Vinyl: A thorough play testing all the way through reveals no distortion to the sound or background noise, just a few audible ticks rarely.

The surfaces grade as Very Good Plus condition on both sides. The vinyl retains a deep bright black glossy finish all over, with just a couple of noticeable but non-feelable tiny scuff marks on either side, which don't detract from the overall appearance, and just a few ultra light stylus hairlines which appear fine and non obtrusive under bright  light. The majority of the surface is completely unblemished both sides even under bright light i.e. no scuffs, dinks, marks or dash lines under the surfaces i.e. no groove wear.

Very heavy robust sixties vinyl weighing at 168 grams.

Labels are Very Good Plus. Text is clear and bright, the perimeter area around the spindle location point has hardly any spindle wear or trace lines indeed for a 1st Mono, the black background has a bit of age related fade spots.

Has the KT tax code embossed on Side 1.

SOLD IN U.K. text across label and

The Gramophone Co. Ltd text around rim.

Low Mother & Stampers

Side 1 - 2 AO

Side 2 - 4 RP

The Audio: The audio grades as Very Good Plus, pretty much Excellent. It has no major detractions such as pops, skips, sticks, and no interference such as hiss or crackle, and the interludes are generally quiet without static. There is no surface noise or background noise. There are cyclic ticks in a few places but don't spoil the listen. The surfaces project a full bodied original edgy mono bass reproduction as The Beatles intended, and the vocals are crisp and clear.

The robustness of these early pressings ensures that the sound quality doesn't deteriorate noticeably as long as the record has not been mistreated. This isn't quite an audiophile copy, but very nearly as it has surprisingly true to form sound for such an early 1st Mono Sgt Pepper - which are normally found with lots of scratches and spindle wear.  It's value can only increase over time and would certainly look great framed or to listen to, as the vinyl reflects a great shine with no irritating marks.

The mono version of Sgt Pepper is the first LP that The Beatles themselves had complete involvement in all aspects of production.
