1970 Singapore issue Censored Vinyl LP in Gatefold sleeve printed by Sin Sin Lithographers
Issued by Parlophone (Black Label) Boxed EMI
Cat No SLPEA 1006
Matrixes are SLPEA 1006A & 1006B
After the first few UK copies which were brought in Singapore in miniscule quantities, the EMI Singapore started pressing Sgt Peppers of which there were of 3 variants :-
1) the very first pressing on yellow/black Parlophone had original UK Garrod & Lofthouse jackets but with the vinyl pressed in Singapore but with all tracks as originally recorded;
2) the second pressings came with both the jacket and vinyl manufactured in Singapore but with no change to the tracks and also on the yellow/black labels;
3) Its the third pressing that has become as rare as hens teeth.
The authorities became very puritanical and started cracking down on anything with even a hint of the 60s counter culture sweeping the world and, by extension, the region around there. Even Government departments had a policy of attending to males with long hair last and had metal notice boards to that effect at Government offices, which has become a collectable but that's another story. Sgt Peppers was one such casualty. It was deemed by the powers to be that three tracks were promoting drugs :- 'With A Little Help From My Friends', 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds', and 'A Day In The Life'. These were removed and substituted with 'The Fool On The Hill' , 'Baby You're A Rich Man' and 'I'm The Walrus' respectively. Unlike the other 2 Singapore pressings , this was on the boxed Parlophone label with silver printing, housed in a gatefold jacket laminated on both the front and back and with the insert, but with a different catalogue number. It has become quite rare as most Beatles fans shunned it due to the altered tracks and it did not sell as well as the other 2 variants. With the innocence of youth, none of us could have foreseen that it would become a collectible!
The Vinyl is well used and Grades at the lower end of Very Good
The Sleeve is also well used and again Grades at the lower end of Very Good
There is no insert. Just a plain inner
This is one for the Beatles completeist rather than a copy to be played regularly
