Scarce 45 rpm psych: THE BEATLES - Strawberry Fields Forever b/w Penny Lane - Capitol dj promo, P 5810; released in 1967.
I recently found two copies of this, and I auctioned one of them off last week. It is the greenish-yellow promo, with the trumpet part at the end of "Penny Lane"; a counterfeit version exists, but I'm sure this is real; I got it from my neighbor, she never actively collected records but she worked at a radio station here in Portland in the 1960's (she said that one time at a radio station party, Mark Lindsey from Paul Revere & the Raiders asked her out and she said no, then "regretted it later, and forever!") and they used to take promo records home all the time. At her sale she had it in a box with other beat up 45s including other dj promos and all late-60's rock (and a 13th Floor Elevators for me) - so the provenance is good. Also, regarding originality - the runout has a star that looks machine-stamped (as opposed to the hand-scratched star on some of the fakes); the numbers are etched as: A-side: "45-45870-G-2", plus a stamped "2" at 4 o'clock and the star at about 3 o'clock; B-side: "45-45871-F1:", with the star at 6 o'clock; these do not match the numbers for the Discogs entries for the real one or the fake.
Condition visually is Good/Acceptable (has moderate to heavy scuffing and some scratches and marks to each side, a couple of which I can barely feel; play-tested - both sides have steady moderate background throughout (background crackle/'static', ticks) but no skips; labels both have a sticker and rubbing).
