Description

The White Album (Early stereo press - Low number of 0082427)

This second stereo pressing plays with very impressive audio and the 'top loading' laminated cover has a low number of 0082427.  This is actually quite rare as the first 300,000 numbers were generally set aside for mono covers and 300,001 to 600,000 for stereo covers according to the 'beatles-collection' site.  So to find one with a very low number of 82427 is relatively rare.  And yes Stereo is printed on the back!

This includes the collage lyric poster and the four 'John Kelly' colour photos and all are in superb condition.

2nd Stereo Press on Apple Records.  'An EMI Recording' on labels + 'Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions'.

 Visual grading

The vinyls are visually very impressive with only a relatively small number of faint sleeve removal hairlines.  There is just one very very small scratch at the start of S2 but aside from that the vinyls are very clean indeed with no groove wear or markings.  There is not a great deal of spindle wear either suggesting they haven't been played too much and the audio pays testament to that also.

Play grading

'Back In The USSR' on S1 plays with superb audio and only a minor amount of static on the 'plane' intro.  There is no distortion and it plays loud and true with no 'background'.  'Dear Prudence' is stunning and plays with incredible clarity and depth.  The only obvious static is on the fade out and even then it is minor and there are no clicks or pops.  All tracks on this side play with tremendous clarity with hardly any interference but there are a couple of light clicks on the '...Bungalow Bill' intro.  The classic 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' plays with wonderful clarity again and there is no distortion on the top end of Clapton's guitar which is a rarity.  A fantastic version with a fade out that plays with perfect precision.  'Happiness Is A Warm Gun' has excellent audio and only a minor amount of distortion on the vocal which is always the case I find.

'Martha My Dear' plays very clearly but there are about eight clicks on the intro caused by a very small faint scratch.  The remainder of the track plays without fault.  'I'm So Tired' plays with great clarity and only a touch of mega quiet static in the background here and there.  'Blackbird' plays to the same standard apart from a couple of clicks on the intro.  The quirky 'Piggies' has audio of exceptional quality and is a superb listen.  The remaining tracks on this side play with excellent clarity and only very light minimal static in a handful of places.  The quieter tracks 'I Will' and 'Julia' close the side with very impressive audio, a little background static on the latter which certainly isn't intrusive and the clarity is superb.

The classic 'Birthday' has stunning audio from the first groove to the last.  It plays with great power and such a strong bass sound and there is no distortion at all.  Fantastic!  'Yer Blues' is of the same standard aside from one double click type sound on the fade out.  For such a quiet track 'Mother Nature's Son' plays incredibly well with next to no 'background' and is one of the 'cleanest' versions I have ever heard.  '...Me And My Monkey' plays with perfect precision, as simple as that.  'Sexy Sadie' is of the same standard aside from one click on the intro.  The fade out on this track is 'high end' with no 'background'.  'Helter Skelter' plays with supreme power and no distortion whatsoever, a breathtaking version.  It is absolutely stunning!  Even the fade out/in/out plays perfectly with no interference.  'Long Long Long' ends the side with very clear audio.  There is no static and the only interference is 3/4 clicks on the intro and a couple of soft ticks in the middle section.  Do not let that put you off!  It still plays with incredible clarity for a final track.  As we all know this is part of the charm of vinyl.  CDs are always there if you want 100% audio clarity but with no warmth, depth etc!!

'Revolution 1' plays with wonderfully clear audio and only a small number of light static sounds at the beginning.  A stunning version overall and the fade out plays perfectly.  'Honey Pie' is again mega impressive and plays practically 'as new' the clarity is that good.  That is also the case on 'Savoy Truffle', the depth and warmth here is first class and it would be nigh on impossible to find a better version.  Stunning strong bass again.  'Cry Baby Cry' again plays to near perfection.  A couple of barely audible dust ticks this is yet another track on this album with stunning audio.  The rarely played ! 'Revolution 9' has only the lightest of static on the intro and then displays sound quality of a fantastic 'high end' standard.  'Good Night' ends this classic album with superlative audio once more.  So often this track has some 'background' but this version I am pleased to say plays with superb precision and no interference of any kind.  A breathtaking end without doubt.

In summary this low number stereo pressing plays with wonderful audio for the vast majority.  There are only a small number of clicks and whilst the laminated 'top loader' gatefold has some minor wear it is still perfectly acceptable.  This comes complete with highly impressive lyric poster and stunning Mint photos.

The Gatefold

The G & L laminated cover does have some shelf wear but is certainly cleaner than many I have seen!  The top loading edges are actually in excellent shape with very little handling wear and the bottom edges have no rubbing at all.  There is some corner wear mainly on the right hand ones and the spine also has a couple of small laminate splits but remains 100% legible.  The front cover is quite clean with only a little discolouration running down the spine and some minor ringwear.  The back cover also has ringwear and a some light marking on the left side.  The inside of the gatefold is in excellent condition overall, it is very clean with only a minor touch of spotting near the inner spine.  The laminate throughout is generally in excellent order with no splitting other than that already mentioned.  So it is not perfect but as I say better than many you see today!

Inner sleeves

The poly-lined black inner sleeves are in perfect condition although I doubt of these are the originals.

The labels

The Apple labels are beautifully clean with no marking/writing and only a small amount of spindle wear on two of the them.  The other two have hardly any!

The Collage Poster and Four Portraits

The lyric poster is in great condition with only 2/3 very faint spots and the photos are 'as new'.
