Description
Here for auction is a rare first pressing of The Beatles classic double album simply titled "The Beatles". This is a 1968 UK Mono First Pressing, Catalogue Number PMC 7067. Dark green Apple labels with "Sold in UK..." text. The number on the front cover is 0039567.
The Matrix Numbers are:
Side 1 - XEX 709-1, Side 2 - XEX 710-1, Side 3 - XEX 711-1 and Side 4 - XEX 712-1.
Vinyl condition: Both records are fairly solidly pressed and sit flat and true on the turntable. There are quite a few noticeable sleeve removal type surface marks (from the unforgiving black inners) which do not affect play. There is one feelable mark on Side 2, Track 2, which sounds as a click upon rotation. Both records play really well with all frequencies crystal clear. This is vibrant period sounding mono recording which still sounds great. Apart from the clicks mentioned above, there is a minimum of unwanted noise which is never intrusive. The labels show only light spindle marking and there is very little spindle wear.
The Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. top-opening gatefold sleeve is in Very Good condition. There are a few light creases, light wear to the corners, and a small area of discoloration to the top right corner of the back cover. All text on the spine is clearly legible although there is some light laminate cracking. The opening gatefold spread and inside flipbacks are in fine shape. There are no rips, stickers or writing. Overall a very presentable sleeve.
Includes the large fold-out lyric poster which is in very good condition - just splits to two of the folded edge ends and light creasing. Unfortunately no postcards.
Complete with the original black die-cut inner sleeves, one of which has some small splits around the centre cut-out.
