The tremendous success of The Beatles in 1964 led to numerous repackagings of their material by the independent labels that had taken a chance on them early on when their nominal American label passed on its option in 1963. While it still controlled American rights to The Beatles' first album, Please Please Me, which it had issued in abridged form as Introducing the Beatles in 1963, Vee Jay hit upon another way of selling the same material. Here, they released a two-LP set -- the first LP is a slightly different abridgement of the Please Please Me album ("Ask Me Why" and "Please Please Me" have been restored, and "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You" deleted), and the second LP is a reissue of the 1963 compilation The 4 Seasons' Golden Hits. The Seasons also were now scoring hits on another label.

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          CAUTION! The vinyl is only GOOD+ TO GOOD++, with multiple, numerous,  scuffs which are BOTH visible AND audible. The record plays with bearable BUT AUDIBLE surface noise and some pops and clicks. The record plays without skipping throughout. This record WAS play-graded. (The Beatles' disc is in a slightly better condition than the Four Seasons disc)

(b)          The records are  pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The album comes with its original poster

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        The previous owner ACTUALLY used the back cover's score card as a (gasp!) -- SCORE CARD, keeping track of he grades she gave to the two bands for each track (grading The Beatles as barely passable, sometimes not even passable -- from 1 to 5,  while awarding The Four Seasons the highest possible grades;  just to give you an example: The Beatles' 'I saw her standing there' was rated "1", while the Four Seasons 'Marlena' was given "9" (Beam me up, Scotty!). Overall, the previous owner gave the Four Seasons the total score of 84, but only gace 36 to the Beatles. Speaking of musical myopia!!!   The scores are written in faded red ballpoint pen and might be possible to erase with a mix of ethyl alcohol and mild soap (we did not attempt to)

-        Cover has some writing on its back side (name of the previous owner written in almost completely faded thin black marker, about 1/4 x 4 inches in size); similar - but even more faded and even less visible - name written on the back panel.

-        Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease)  in one of the corners.

-        Cover has some tiny, faint writing on its front side (a small letter "M" written in one corner)

-        The gatefold cover has partially split seams on all four of its "legs" (about 1/2, 5, 5 and 5 inches / 1 inch = 2.5 centimeters).  Three out or four split seams  were delicately taped by the previous owner with pieces of transparent scotch tape  ranging from  1 to 5 inches in length

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging; Yellowing is also noted on the INSIDE gatefold

-         Cover has a minor 'bump' (dent) on the opening side  (VISIBLE ON BACK 'LEG' OF THE COVER ONLY)

-         Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on the top and bottom seams

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         The cover has a few tiny scratch marks on the front side  (BARELY VISIBLE)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
