THE BEATLES – WHITE ALBUM - ORIGINAL  1ST ISSUE IN MONO.

1968 PMC 7067/7068 -  APPLE RECORD LABEL.

A UK FIRST EDITION MONO PRESSING IN 100% ORIGINAL CONDITION.  The text    ‘An EMI recording’   appears on only ONE of the records. 

CONDITION:

MAIN SLEEVE:  is in very good condition, the double album gatefold sleeve has ‘The Beatles’ embossed onto the front and a unique individual serial number of  0173009. This number appears as a factory misprint as the last number of the Seven digit number, the ‘number 9’ was not printed very clear.  The records are accessed from the top.  To the top right rear, there is NO print confirming this to be the genuine MONO sleeve.  The sleeve has little in the way of the usual discolouration and is white and very clean. It features exposed flipbacks. The condition of the spine is good, the laminate is a little flaky but the text on the spine is all readable.  There are a few light scuffs and creases.

INNER SLEEVES: features the two original BLACK inners, one is in very good condition with slight wear to the two side edges,  the other is in good condition with wear to the three edges,  there are also two tears from the centre of the die cut hole, one  is  70mm long  and the other is 110mm long, the tears have  had  a tidy repair done to them and have been repaired with cellotape from the ‘inside’  of the sleeve.

PHOTOS: the photos are in near excellent condition, the photo of John has a light  crease across the width.  They have NO biro writing on,  NO blue tack residue and no pin hole damage. They are clean  and white at the rear.

POSTER:  is in good condition+ and has no biro writing on, NO blue tack residue and no pin hole damage, all the text is clear. The poster is clean and white. There is some general fold wear but no tears and some light age marks. There is a cellotape repair across one of the  horizontal folds.

VINYL:  the two records are of the original thick, heavy  vinyl, both the records  are clean, very dark and shiny:

The first record, side one is in very good condition+, the audio is very good and plays well, the record lays flat with no skips or jumps. The matrix nos. are XEX 709-1, and XEX 710-1 and the mother/stampers are  6 AT  and 8 GGM.  There are some light marks to the surface.  

The second record it is in very good condition. Visually on  side 3, I grade as in good+ condition,  the audio is very good, the record lays flat and  plays well with no skips or jumps.  The matrix nos. are XEX 711-1,  and XEX 712 -1 and the mother/stampers are   2 GA  and  1  A.  There are some light marks to the surface.

LABELS:  are in very good++ condition, showing on each side their original DARK green Apple colours.  There is a little spindle wear, but no damage and no  biro writing,  ‘An EMI recording’ text does NOT  appear on the first record, ie side 1 and 2, but unusually DOES appear on record 2,  ie sides 3 and 4 !,   indicating a transition pressing of the label design.  All the labels have the text:  ‘Sold in the UK’ etc,  the George and Ringo songs are listed as  ‘Apple Publishing’.

I am using the official grading system from Record Collector Magazine.

Grading System

The seven standard condition categories and a description of what each one means are listed below:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

+  or  – :  indicates a grading in between categories.
