Description

THE BEATLES – WHITE ALBUM, ORIGINAL STEREO.

1968 PCS 7067/7068 -  APPLE RECORD LABEL.

A UK FIRST EDITION TOP LOADING STEREO PRESSING IN  ORIGINAL CONDITION, FEATURING A UNIQUE SERIAL NUMBER OF ‘0332701’.  Side Two has a mis printed label as it shows a ‘yellow’ edge against the white of the apple,  see photo.   Also side Four of the record has a more unusual matrix number of YEX 712 ‘2’, this is normally a ‘1’.    Side Two of the record label also has a ‘KT’ embossed onto it.

CONDITION:

MAIN SLEEVE:  the double album gatefold sleeve is in excellent+ condition.  It is almost to be expected that these sleeves, over the years ‘yellow’ with age but this one is a brilliant fresh white, it looks and even smells just like NEW.  There is virtually NO handling wear to the sleeve.  The top opening edges are all in excellent+ condition. On the front it has the wording ‘The Beatles’ embossed and a unique individual SERIAL Number of 0332701, this number appears very clear and bold.  To the rear there is the word ‘Stereo’ printed,  the records are accessed from the top.  The spine is excellent but has a little flaky laminate but is unusually very white and all the text is readable.  The sleeve features visible flipbacks when the sleeve is opened, these flipbacks are all excellent and well stuck down.

INNER SLEEVES: both are the two original BLACK inners, they have NOT been replaced.  One of the sleeves is in very good condition and has a small tear,  10mm at the die cut hole and some rubbing wear to one of the edges.   The other sleeve  is in good++ condition and has Two tears,  20 and 25mm at the die cut hole and has  some rubbing wear to all three edges.

POSTER: the original poster is in good+ condition,  the poster has been hung on a wall at some point  and has cellotape residue on all Four corners and Two pin holes in the top Two corners.  It is  complete  and all the text is clear, there is NO Biro writing, there is a little rubbing wear to some of the folds.

PHOTOS: please note there are NO photos.

VINYL: record One:   is in excellent+ condition,  record Two:  is also in  excellent+ condition, the two records look like NEW.  The two records are of the original ‘thick and heavy’ vinyl and are dark and shiny.  I have just played this album all the way through on my ‘Dual’ turntable and it sounded amazing, a really strong powerful period Stereo sound.  The playback is near perfect, the best I have heard, the records lay flat and play perfectly with NO skips or jumps.   The matrix nos. are YEX 709-1, and YEX 710-1, YEX 711-1 and unusually YEX 712-‘2’.  The Mother/Stampers are:  ‘ 4  OG ’,   and  ‘2  -  GGA’  and   ‘2  -  GMR’  and    ‘1  -  GDL’.

THE LABELS:  are in excellent condition, featuring the original DARK green Apple colours.  ‘An EMI recording’ text  appears on all four of the labels,  all the labels show  ‘Sold in the UK’ text etc.  The George and Ringo songs are listed as  ‘Apple Publishing’.   Unusually there is  a ‘KT’ embossed onto side Two.  There also appears an unusual ‘Yellow line’, see photo that appears  around the top of the white apple on side Two, this does not appear of side Four, I have never seen this before,  how odd !.

I am using the official grading system from Record Collector Magazine.

Grading System

The seven standard condition categories and a description of what each one means are listed below:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

+  or  – :  indicates a grading in between categories.
