Description

The Beatles : With The Beatles 1st Mono Press 1/1 with 'Jobete' and 'Gotta' credits

This first pressing plays to a superb standard and there is not one single click or pop.  The vinyl is in fantastic condition and I am not sure I have ever seen a 'Jobete' one as visually stunning as this.  Not only that but the Patents pending cover is also in beautiful condition, it is so clean with hardly any shelf wear.

A first pressing has a 1/1 matrix and the 'Jobete' credit on the S2 label.  It has the incorrect 'Gotta' credit on both the S2 label and the cover.  It will have 'The Parlophone Co. Ltd...' around the rim and 'Recording first published 1963' also.  The KT tax code is stamped on the S2 label.

The audio on S1 is Ex+ (Near Mint in many sections / Track 6 & 7 Ex-)

The audio on S2 is Ex+ (Near Mint in many sections / T7 Ex)

The cover is Ex+ very close to Near Mint-

The labels are Near Mint-

The Emitex inner sleeve is Ex-

 Visual grading

These 'Jobete' first pressings are so often in poor condition but I am glad to say this is not one of them!  It has a stunning glossy sheen and you can tell it has always been very carefully handled.  There are only a couple of tiny marks and a handful of very faint hairlines but there are no scratches at all.  It really is a lovely looking vinyl!  The run out grooves are incredibly clean and whilst there is some spindle wear it has definitely not been overplayed and the labels are in great condition also.

Play grading

'It Won't Be Long' has very strong audio right from the start.  With only a little of the distortion that you get from playing mono records on a stereo set up this plays with great power throughout.  There is no interference at all, not one single click or pop!  I am happy to grade this as Near Mint the audio is that good.

'All I've Got To Do' is of a very similar standard and again there is no obvious interference.  Perhaps just a touch of distortion during the quieter passages and it is actually on the higher levels where this track plays with stunning quality.  The clarity and depth during the louder sections cannot be faulted in any way.  Overall this is Ex+ but yes certain sections are better than that.

'All My Loving' plays with very strong audio and no interference....again.  This is Near Mint in my opinion.

'Don't Bother Me' and 'Little Child' have no interference but they both have some more obvious distortion on the top end.  In saying for louder tracks that they still play very well for a record that is 57 towards the end of this year!  Plus no ticks, clicks or pops once again.  I think Ex+ is a fair assessment for both.

'Till There Was You' does have some static distortion on the vocal for some reason but the music itself plays with exceptional clarity.  Inner groove distortion is always a factor so I am sure this could be reduced when played as a mono record but I will grade as Ex- just to be on the safe side.

'Please Mister Postman' is again affected by inner groove distortion but there is no other 'background' so I will grade as Ex- again.

------------------------------------------------------------------

The classic 'Roll Over Beethoven' is stunning from start to finish and plays with great power and depth.  I have rarely heard this track play so well on a genuine first pressing and can easily be turned up to loud!  The definition of the audio is so impressive here and Near Mint is a fair grading.

'Hold Me Tight' is of the same exacting standard with no interference whatsoever.  For a louder track the playback is so strong and there is no obvious distortion at all.  A superb Near Mint version.

'You Really GOTTA Hold On Me' again plays with breathtaking quality and, you guessed it, no interference!  Near Mint once more.

The up tempo 'I Wanna Be Your Man' plays to a similar standard but with a little distortion on the top end.  Apart from that there is no 'background' and the clarity is very impressive.  The audio has a very deep, 'clean' sound.  I will grade this as Ex+ but perhaps deserves a higher grading when played as mono!

'Devil In Her Heart' is of the same standard and I will grade as Ex+ again.  The clarity is excellent and whilst I do not wish to sound repetitive there is no interference here at all.

'Not A Second Time' is the penultimate track so you expect a little more inner groove distortion but it is minimal here and the playback really is very impressive.  No clicks or pops etc and Ex+ again.

The classic 'Money' plays with real power and whilst there is some distortion it certainly does not overpower the track.  I may be underselling myself here but will grade as Ex because of this.  It still plays remarkably well and as I often say, you can still turn it up to loud without having to turn it down immediately!

In summary this highly collectable first pressing plays to a superb standard overall and this is perhaps not that surprising when you consider the visual quality of the vinyl.  There are no clicks or pops on either side and how often can that be said for a near 57 year old record!  There is no static or crackle and as per the 'Please Please Me' that I am also selling there is just some inner groove distortion, a common feature of course.  The cover is also in fantastic condition and hardly ever seen as 'clean' as this.

The Cover

This laminated G & L Patents pending cover is quite possibly the finest example I have ever seen.  It has been so well preserved and has hardly any wear.  The edges and spine have no rubbing or marking at all and there is hardly any corner wear either.  The opening edge has only minimal handling wear.  The front cover is in superb condition with only a couple of very small creases, minor ringwear and a some small scratch lines in the centre that you can only see when you hold it at a certain angle.  The laminate could not be any better and has no splits or lifts.  The back cover is absolutely stunning!  It has none of the marking or staining that you so often see and the flipbacks are still firmly attached to the cover with no staining on the edges.  There is just one minor crease in the bottom right corner.

A fantastic example overall that has more than likely been kept inside a protective sleeve all its life!

The Labels

The yellow/black Parlophone labels have no marking or writing and have lost none of their original colour.  You can tell it has been played a fair amount by the spindle wear but there is not a massive amount.  The KT tax stamp can clearly be seen on the S2 label.

The Inner Sleeve

The original Emitex sleeve is in excellent shape with only one small tear on the top edge and one small corner split.  There is no marking and not very much creasing.
