A very nice condition & highly presentable copy of this increasingly hard to find and sought after 1963 UK early press Beatles classic on the yellow & black Parlophone label, 

MONO PMC 1206

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1    XEX 447 - 5N  with stampers "1" and "L T" at 8.30 o'clock and 2.30 o'clock respectively 

Side 2    XEX 448 - 7N  with stampers "1" and "G D" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

GRADINGS :

RECORD (Visual Grade / Aural Grade) :  Very Good plus (VG+) / very good plus (VG+)  Completely flat and heavy vinyl with lovely jet black sheen on both sides. Glossy in normal daylight and it is only with close scrutiny under a bright light that a few fine hairlines on each side and x3 very light 1cm pencil thin scuffs on side 2 come into view - nothing feelable and all appearing to be purely superficial. Very impressive, especially considering that this record is now a 57 year old antiquity!

LABELS : Excellent overall with the silver text, matt black background, and yellow Parlophone writing and logo all beautifully intact. Just a few faint spindle trails on each label. Note the embossed "K" and "T" tax codes on the side 1 label - another indicator of very early UK pressings along with the "THE PARLOPHONE..." & "RECORDING FIRT PUBLISHED..." label texts.

OUTER SLEEVE : Very Good+ (VG+) : Ernest J. Day front side laminated with reverse side flipbacks, with no cardboard creasing, firm edges with no scuffing (remarkable!); corners remain nicely defined right angles with minimal rubbing. There are a few 1cm vertical laminate surface creases adjacent and perpendicular to the bottom edge and a slightly more noticeable laminate lift and surface gash in the bottom right corner. The spine itself is in near perfect condition with all text remaining perfectly intact. The opening edges are rigid with no fraying, and the reverse side is in excellent condition with the three flipbacks in great shape - just a minor flipback tear at the very top right corner. The only other blemishes on the reverse side are a few very, very light wear marks and a small and very light yellow stain immediately over the word "HAYES" towards the bottom edge, about the size of my thumb nail. Lovely art work, photos and text all perfectly intact, and no unwanted writing or doodles and barely any age discolouration. Brilliant!

INNER SLEEVE : Original "USE EMITEX" and "MADE IN ENGLAND" poly-lined, die-cut inner sleeve with no rips or tears, no seam splits, barely any discolouration and just some mild creasing at the bottom two corners - brilliant!. NOTE that I will place the record into a plain white inner sleeve (and separate from the outer sleeve) in order to protect the original inner sleeve during posting.

AUDIO QUALITY : To be precise I should say that side 1 is excellent (EX) and side 2 is very good plus (VG+). Great tone and clarity throughout and the side 1 mono audio quality is especially impressive. No jumps, repeats, intrusive clicks (in fact, no clicks at all on side 1) and barely any background crackle/interference not even on the dead wax run-ins. I did notice x3 very light background clicks at the very end of "Devil In Her Heart", and just the hint of some very mild background crackle during the interlude immediately preceding "Money", but there is nothing here to impinge upon the overall excellent mono sound quality with every track making for a great listen.

In summary a very nice condition and highly presentable copy of this increasingly hard to find 1963 very early yellow & black Parlophone UK press Beatles classic - a worthy addition to any serious Beatles vinyl collection, and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
