The Beatles : With The Beatles (1st 1N/1N Mono Press with 'Jobete' credit)

This is one of the most impressive 'Jobete' first pressings that you will find today.  It is very clean with only a few superficial hairlines and the audio plays to an excellent standard, just the one faint click!  The cover is also in excellent condition with only very minor shelf wear.

The S2 label has the MT tax stamp as opposed to the more common KT one.  On July 1st 1963 they moved over to the KT code and of course this album was released in Nov '63.  It's not unknown for these pressings to have the MT stamp but of course it does make the album that much rarer.   It is only seen on the early 'Jobete' pressings.

Mono 1N/1N pressing on Yellow/Black label with the 'Jobete' credit for 'Money' on S2.  'The Parlophone Co. Ltd' etc printed around the perimeter edge.  'Recording first published 1963'.  MT tax stamp on the S2 label.  'You Really Got A Hold On Me' miss-spelt as 'Gotta' on both the G & L Patents pending cover and the label.

  This has to be one of the cleanest 'Jobete' vinyls around today and it still has a superb glossy sheen even after 55 years.  S1 has only a small number of very faint sleeve removal hairlines and two very short 'squiggle' type hairlines.  S2 has a few more hairlines with 2/3 that are a little more obvious but it is still visually very impressive and there are no scratches on either side.  There is a fair amount of spindle wear but is mainly centred around the inner circle area.  Aside from that the labels are very clean as are the run out grooves.

Play grading

'It Won't Be Long' plays extremely well with no clicks, pops or crackle.  There is just a minimal amount of static on the final note.  The depth and power of the audio is very impressive as is the clarity when you consider this album is now 55 years old.  There is no obvious distortion, just what you would expect to hear when playing a mono record on a stereo set up.

With near silence in the dead wax 'All I've Got To Do' has barely any static on the intro and thereafter plays to a superb standard.  There is nothing that detracts from the quality of the audio.  There are a small number of mega light static sounds towards the end but they are very quiet and totally non-intrusive.  The fade out plays nigh on perfectly.

'All My Loving' is stunning.  Another 'high octane' track and yet it plays with great power from start to finish.  Again there are no clicks or pops, the clarity is superb.

'Don't Bother Me' plays very clearly but with a little distortion on the top end perhaps.  Don't get me wrong the audio is still of an excellent standard and there is no interference.  I sometimes think I undersell my records because 99% of sellers would not even mention this!  Any record needs to be judged by its clarity and the clarity is still hugely impressive.  An example of this is on the fade out which has no 'background'.

'Little Child' plays loud and true and with barely any distortion, a rarity for this 'rocker'.  You can hear each note so clearly and the many harmonica sections play beautifully.

The acoustic intro on 'Till There Was You' is so clean but the vocal does have a little static distortion which is a bit off-putting at times.  Aside from that the acoustic backing plays with perfect clarity.  The distortion is by no means extreme and it could be 'improved' when played as a mono record.

 'Please Mister Postman' ends the side with some more obvious distortion on the vocal but this is generally unavoidable because when doesn't this track play like this?  Otherwise it plays well and with no clicks or pops etc.  In fact not one click or pop on S1, that's quite impressive!

'Roll Over Beethoven' has barely any static on the intro and then plays with great power and depth and such a strong bass sound also.  This is a stunning version!  There is no distortion and the clarity and power is so distinctive.  A Near Mint version I am confident in saying.  There is minimal static on the fade out.

'Hold Me Tight' and 'You Really Gotta (Got A) Hold On Me' both play with wonderful depth and power again with barely any distortion.  The playback is of a very high standard and there is no interference whatsoever.

'I Wanna Be Your Man' plays to the same impeccable standard.  I must just say again this album is playing so well for 55 years old!  Not surprising when you see how clean the vinyl is.  No clicks or pops!  The fade out again plays perfectly.

'Devil In Her Heart' has perhaps a little more distortion for the same aforementioned reason but that takes nothing away from the overall playback which is extremely good.  The clarity and strength of the audio cannot be faulted.

'Not A Second Time' is stunning!  With barely any distortion the audio could scarcely be any better and needless to say there is no interference from start to finish.  There is one loud 'scrape' sound at the end in the dead wax but that is obviously not during the music!

'Money' ends the album with some distortion as you would expect, this is common on 'final tracks'.  There is also one faint click near the beginning but it is largely lost in the music.  The track still plays with great power and provides a fitting end to this more upbeat album.

In summary this first 'Jobete' mono pressing (with MT tax stamp) plays with wonderful audio and with only one faint click on the final track.  That is rather impressive to say the least!  There is also no crackle and barely any static.  For such a rare pressing any collector would be impressed by the audio here.  The vinyl is so clean and has obviously been looked after extremely well and the cover is also in great order, much cleaner than practically all others you see!

The Cover

The G & L Patents pending cover is one of the cleanest you will find with only a little shelf wear.  So many are in very poor condition but this is not one of those!  The edges and spine are in superb shape with no rubbing/marking and there is very little corner wear.  The opening edge has a small amount of handling wear and a couple of very small 'nicks' also.  The laminated front cover is extremely clean with no marking and only 3/4 small creases next to the spine.  There is a slight bend top left but it certainly isn't obvious.  The back cover is rarely seen this clean and has no obvious marking, just minimal fading next to the opening edge.  There is a small sticker removal mark to the left of the catalogue number which has affected the cover a little but is faint.  The flipbacks are in superb condition with none of the staining that you regularly find.  Overall this is an excellent example of this very early cover.

Inner Sleeve

The original poly-lined Emitex sleeve has no splits or tears, no marking and only a minor amount of creasing.  A fine example.

The Labels

The yellow/black Parlophone labels are very clean and have no marking or writing just some spindle wear as previously mentioned.  The MT tax stamp can be seen clearly on the S2 label.
