As it was their first studio album in almost eighteen months (and coming after the blockbuster success of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band) expectations were high at time of release of The Beatles. The album debuted at number 1 in the UK on 1 December 1968[47] (becoming their third album to do so, after Help! and Revolver). It spent seven weeks at the top of the UK charts (including the entire competitive Christmasseason), until it was replaced by The Seekers' Best of the Seekers on 25 January 1969, dropping to number 2.[47] However, the album returned to the top spot the next week, spending an eighth and final week at number 1.[47] It then spent another four weeks in the Top 10, and then dropped in the charts more quickly than Sgt. Pepper. The White Album was notable for blocking The Beatles' follow-up album, Yellow Submarine, which debuted (and peaked at) number 3 on 8 February 1969, the same week The White Album was dominating the second position on the charts. In all, The Beatles spent 24 weeks on the UK charts, far less than the more than 200 weeks for Sgt. Pepper.

Mono version

The Beatles was the last Beatles album to be released with a unique, alternative mono mix, albeit one issued only in the UK and a few other countries. Twenty-eight of the album's 30 tracks ("Revolution 1" and "Revolution 9" being the only exceptions) exist in official alternative mono mixes. Several of these mono mixes are quite different from the stereo versions, such as "Helter Skelter", where the fade-out and fade-in towards the end is eliminated. In addition, the mono mix of "Yer Blues" has a longer fadeout than that of its stereo counterpart.

In the United States, the album achieved huge commercial success. It debuted at number 11, jumped to number 2, and reached number 1 in its third week, spending a total of nine weeks at the top. In all, The Beatlesspent 155 weeks on the Billboard 200. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, The Beatles is The Beatles' best-selling album at 19-times platinum and the tenth-best-selling album of all time in theUnited States. (Each sale is counted as two sales, because The Beatles is a double record set.)

This album looks near mint, beautiful condition, exceptionally clean & almost like new. All inserts included are in the photos & everything is crisp & clean like new. The poster is huge & lyrics are on the reverse. Even the photos are high quality & have a semi gloss finish. The vinyl sounds awesome no matter your particular musical preference. A very tastefully versatile album, high quality and excellent audio experience! Turn down the gain as the records more powerful than many other records, very well produced. Until listening to these records I had not noticed some of their clever edits (back then anyway). The vinyl looks and sounds Near Mint. Depending on your equipment, one may hear very faint occasional "vinyl" sounds in the quiet areas or between a small portion of the songs, Superb! If you are extremely meticulous & searching for flaws while listening very closely you may hear an ultra faint tic or pop here or there but very, very miniscule. The audio is awesome at high volume or low volume, near field or far, and there are no audible marks or scratches on the vinyl. If you are looking with a microscope you may find only a few, if any visible microscopic spider strings or ultra faint sleeve swipe. There are a few superficial stylus marks on side 3 visible under close inspection, one of which is more visible than the others & none of which are feel-able or audible. Perhaps a shade under near mint depending on subtle varying interpretations. Grading can be subjective so if you have questions please ask. The records were played once gently on an Ortofon using light weight. I recorded it at 24 bit 96khz & and the sound is strong & super clean! If you are looking for a super clean copy here it is! It is very hard to find this album in such fine shape! Please see the photos.

*** One very important discovery which seems unusual and perhaps Unique or one of a kind. This was a surprise as I have never had time to listen to this album until the auction was listed. Perhaps one of the many knowledgable collectors out there knows something more about this oddity than I, but it seems like a rarity.
