Description
The Beatles - 'The Beatles'
This auction is for an original first Mono pressing of The Beatles infamous self-titled double LP album, known affectionately as the white album, numbered 0207322.
The wide spine top opening gatefold sleeve is in great condition and unlike most white albums the text is still legible. Vinyl is in used but very nice condition (see below) with first press matrix numbers and low stampers. Labels feature 'Sold in UK...' but also have the previous owners names on them. Comes with original pictures in mint condition, poster (excellent but for the fact someone has written the lyrics to Hey Jude on the reverse) and black inners. So in summary great condition vinyls, superb sleeve and complete with all the extras but with some flaws.
THIS WEEK I AM ALSO SELLING A RARE STEREO FIRST PRESS OF SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND IN NICE CONDITION & OTHER GEMS, I CAN COMBINE POSTAGE AND SHIPPING COSTS (ONLY £1 FOR EACH ADDITIONAL VINYL).
Label / Catalogue Number: PMC 7067-7068
Year: 1968
Matrix number (Stampers in brackets): Side 1 - XEX 709-1 (3-TM), Side 2 - XEX 710-1 (1-RP), Side 3 - XEX 711-1 (1-GGL), Side 4 - XEX 712-1 (2-LH)
Sleeve: EX- (original Garrod and Lofthouse gatefold sleeve in good condition with some creasing and ringwear, edges are sharp and wide spine is a little dirty but still clear and legible)
Vinyl: EX- (hairlines visible when held up to the light but nothing deep, both discs play with minor crackle heard only between tracks, no pops or skips - great mono sound, as always. Labels have the names of the previous owner written on them - see photo)
Pictures: EX+ (all four beatles pictures are present and in as new condition)
Poster: VG (poster is excellent but for the fact someone has written the lyrics to 'Hey Jude' on reverse side to kiss)
Inners: NM (black inners are in perfect condition, may be modern copies)
Record Collector Grading System
- MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
- EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
- VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
- GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
- FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.
- POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
- BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
