CONDITION - RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING STANDARD (SEE BOTTOM OF LISTING)

SLEEVE: 

I grade as EXCELLENT (-) overall.

The fully laminated sleeve is very clean and suffers only a little from age yellowing but not in any bad way. The top opening edges are nice and square with very little wear at all. The corners are hardly damaged at all considering its age and the laminate is intact apart from some lifting on the spine.  

There are two creases to the front (see close up photos) and a little creasing in the interior centrefold. There are also a few small indentations and marks.

'The BEATLES' is crisply embossed leaning slightly upwards with the number 0053125 clearly printed leaning downwards below.

There is very little ring wear front or back.  The back of the sleeve is clean with just one tiny spot. 

SPINE: VERY GOOD; the spine is fully intact and the text is all legible. There is some lift to the laminate and some age browning.

PHOTO PRINTS: John, Ringo & George are all in EXCELLENT condition. I would grade Paul slightly lower at VERY GOOD as there are noticeable marks if held up to the light + a little age browning to the top left.

POSTER: VERY GOOD (+) condition overall; there are some light marks and also some light creasing. There is a 6cm split along one fold and a 20cm split on another.

INNERS: VERY GOOD (+) condition; the 2 original die-cut black sugar paper inners are actually in pretty reasonable condition (much better than a lot that I have seen). Both are fully intact with just a little fraying and minor tearing at the tops and a tiny bit of wear around the holes. 

LABELS: A couple of tiny nicks to side 3, but otherwise EXCELLENT / EXCELLENT (+) with no spindle wear at all.

RECORD - SOUND: 

VERY GOOD condition overall; all 4 sides play pretty much to the same standard.  

The music is, in the main, very bold sounding but there is some background noise typical of mono records played on modern hi-tech stereo decks; it is present throughout play but is not particularly intrusive in the main with the possible exception of 'Long, Long, Long'. There are some occasional pops and clicks in places.

I did pick up some distortion on 'Goodnight'.

Disc 2 has edge warping that does not affect play at all. This was only noticeable when I flipped over the record to play its second side.

RECORD - VISUAL: 

DISC 1; this is still relatively shiny but has its fair share of hairline and light scratches + some superficial scuffing. Probably just about VERY GOOD to look at.

DISC 2; this looks a bit duller and has more marks to the surfaces. Probably more like VERY GOOD (-) to look at.

Both could surely clean up nicely if given the benefit of a professional clean.

GRADING

All of my records have been play tested before listing using a new Rega P3-24 turntable. I describe honestly and accurately but please bear in mind that I am only human and such things are always subjective. I tend to grade records conservatively and believe that my feedback speaks for itself. I am a collector myself (please check my feedback as a buyer) and know how disappointing it is to receive an inaccurately described record.

I also grade visually using a strong halogen lamp.

I use the Record Collector grading system as shown below.

I post worldwide and pack all records in custom made (stiff) card mailers and add extra packaging inside to ensure a safe delivery. I will provide a protective polythene sleeve and the record and inner will be removed from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits in transit. I want your record to get to you in the condition that it was when it left me.

For any records that come with printed inner sleeves, I will also provide an additional plain inner.

RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.

With regards to 'Goodnight', I now have 3 copies of the White Album that distort on this track. I don't know how common this problem is, but I suspect pressing one side of vinyl with nearly 25 minutes of music on it can't be good for the sound!
