Label Conditions: All four immaculate as new. Very clean, fresh and attractive and I am struggling to find any trace of a spindle mark on any. This audiophile pressing was owned by a Beatles completist and I can be fairly sure it was played no more than once – if indeed at all – my play grade could indeed have been it’s very first.

Cat Number: MFSL 2-072. This set did not include any cards, poster or black inners. This copy has no MF technical inner sheet.

Mode / Speed: Stereo (half speed mastered direct from the original master tapes on pure virgin vinyl) / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of these Records: 108 / 108 grams.

Country of Manufacture: Records: Pressed in Japan on the purest highest quality vinyl possible. This Mobile Fidelity pair of records are translucent e.g. light, and even image detail passes through them when held to a light source. The cover: USA.

Rarity & Detail: Rare: Mobile Fidelity are world-renowned audiophile pressings and made in very limited numbers for the specialist sound enthusiasts – there motto is “quality, no quantity”. Most sold out very quickly and few are seen in Europe. Deliberately not mass-produced to keep the sound quality as high as possible and the sound originates from the original master tape. The vinyl used is of the purest quality possible, and you can actually see through it. No need for bright light, simply view up close through the dead wax area, and indeed you can see right through this record. With manufacturing standards of the highest quality possible and mastering is done at half speed to glean every detail from the analogue tapes – this double set, barely even run-in in vinyl terms, offers the most incredible sound I have ever heard from this album – and that is high praise indeed.

Brief Info: Most people interested in such a set will know more than enough about it’s content and history already. What this copy is all about is pristine sound quality that leads you directly into the recording studio itself. This Mobile Fidelity legendary cut offers quite possibly the best sound possible from a 1968 album. Probably played once and no more than twice, this Beatles masterpiece is for the sound connoisseur who wants to experience something a little above the norm. After my play-grade, the claims made by this company are not exaggerated, this plays practically as quite as any digital media but with all the dynamic range and detail you could ever glean from the original master tape. This pair of records are simply magnificent.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(+): an unlaminated gatefold format with shiny varnished style surfaces. Printed in the USA.

Cover Front & Back: Both sides clean, fresh with a fine shine. The odd gentle surface crease that shows little and odd faint tone spot or surface chip with a few minor press marks on the lower edges from storage. A very nice looking cover overall.

Cover Inner Gatefold: A little light creasing near the bottom right corner area, little else to really fault.

Top Edges: Solid, straight with barely any hint of wear at all.

Bottom Edges: Again solid and quite straight, a few light press marks from storage.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Both incredibly crisp and sharp with no wear or trimming. Records enter on these edges.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight with any compression slight. All text is present and unworn.

Corners: Light tip rubbing on the bottom right with the odd gentle tip crease. All others practically as made and all retain excellent or better shape.

Cover Summary: A very fine example of this scarce MF cover, it will never too easy to find much better and should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeves: EXCELLENT(++): this set included two ultra soft anti-static inners that are practically as made with just the usual natural crinkle.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: PRACTICALLY MINT for both. A sublime and quite magnificent visual pair that is are clean, shiny, intense black and solidly pressed. A copy possibly unplayed until my mandatory sound check prior to listing. Finding even the odd ultra fine hairline on these four immaculate playing surfaces proved quite difficult. Visually a amazing records that should please most-all collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Both records play up to, and yes, even exceed their wonderfully impressive visual gradings. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is immense with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. As stated above, the only way you could have experienced this album better was to be in the recording studio at the time, and the fine extra detail and resolution gleaned from these beautifully manufactured records is hard to image better. Devoid of surface sounds, and just one faint single rev tick was (just) noted on the entire set – try matching that. With a pressing standard second-to-none, these two virgin vinyl records are nigh-on unbeatable for a challenging album that offers immense sound and a world-class production by the legendary producer, George Martin. The sound is fully focused, precise and sharp throughout and devoid of that annoying loud crackle that blights so many of the vintage originals. Even the fragile and delicate songs like ‘Blackbird’, ‘Long Long Long’ and the most challenging, ‘Dear Prudence’, play superbly. The ferociously loud ‘Helter Skelter’ is simply awesome, here tight and punchy and fully controlled. When played on a top quality sound system, this offers those small extra details, precision and above all, clean quiet sound that most earlier pressings can only dream of. How many originals will have only been played once or twice? – and then on what? This rare and strictly limited double set will prove near impossible to match or find better and will delight the connoissour and sound purist as well as fans of this legendary band and album. These two records are unreservedly recommended.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
