The Beatles : Yellow Submarine 1/1 1st Stereo Press (Red Lines)
This first stereo pressing plays with stunning quality and barely any interference. The clarity on S1 is superb with only the final track having some inner groove distortion and this has to be the most impressive S2 I have ever heard! The clarity and depth of the audio is first class and there is just one minor click.
The cover of course has the red lines on the back and remains in excellent condition with only minor shelf wear. The original black die-cut inner is also in great shape and remarkably has no splits!
A first press is denoted by the 1/1 matrix and that it has 'Sold in U.K. subject to...' on both labels.

Play grading
S1 begins with a superb version of the classic 'Yellow Submarine' which plays nigh on perfectly with no clicks, pops or crackle. There are only a handful of barely audible static ticks and I am confident in grading this as Near Mint the clarity and definition of the audio is so good. The fade out also plays with great precision.
'Only A Northern Song' is undeniably one of the finest versions I have ever heard. There is so much 'going on' with this track musically and often suffers from a fair amount of static or distortion or both! Not here! The playback is very impressive and the clarity cannot be faulted. This is Near Mint with no interference at all although I am sure many would grade higher.
'All Together Now' if anything plays even better! The clarity and depth of the audio clearly shows this vinyl has only ever been lightly played. A stunning Mint- version.
The piano intro on 'Hey Bulldog' plays powerfully with no intrusion and continues in the same precise way. This album was produced 'loud' and will often have some distortion but as stated before this has not been on a turntable that many times and therefore there is no audio deterioration. No groove wear plus a very clean vinyl resulting in superb power and clarity from start to finish. I can't quite decide between Near Mint and Mint- so will settle with the former :-)
The 'high octane' intro on 'It's All Too Much' is faultless and proceeds to play with very strong audio. Another 'busy' Harrison track there is much to admire here. There are no clicks or pops and barely any distortion. I say 'barely' because systems can differ widely in how they play. There is perhaps a minimal touch of distortion on my system but as I said before this may just be due to how it was recorded and produced. This is still deserving of a Near Mint grade in my educated opinion and again the long fade out provides another example of the clarity on offer here.
'All You Need Is Love' does end the side with some inner groove distortion but that is more due to it being the final track rather than anything else. The grooves are more compressed as it were thus causing this 'background' so shouldn't be downgraded as such. It still plays well with no other interference and will grade as Ex just to err on the side of caution :-)

The 'orchestral' S2 plays beautifully and 'Pepperland' starts things off in fine style with barely any 'background'. There are no clicks or pops and only a minimal amount of mega light static in a couple of places. It is so faint and non-intrusive and I am sure I could only 'hear' it because I sit so close to the speakers! A Near Mint version easily.
'Sea Of Time' just has one light click on the intro and an even lighter tick and then plays with stunning clarity for the remainder. This is so impressive when you consider how many quiet passages there are. It really is a fine rendition and even with that one click right at the start it is worthy of a Near Mint- grade as the music has hardly begun at that point!
The intro on 'Sea Of Holes' plays perfectly and proceeds to play with great clarity and not one single click or pop. There are a small number of very light dust ticks but in no way do they intrude on the quality of the 'listen'. You will find dust ticks on new vinyl let alone one that is over 50 years old! This is still a 'high end' Near Mint version'
Again the intro on 'Sea Of Monsters' is so 'clean' with only a handful of very light dust ticks and it gets better! The clarity here is sensational and there is nothing to fault! Unless you count a small number of dust ticks again just prior to the very famous strings section near the end! S2 so often plays with a fair amount of background but I am pleased to say every 'track' so far is playing with super clean audio. This keeps up the standard and grades as Near Mint again.
'March Of The Meanies' is as close to perfect as could be. There is one very light tick towards the end but it is very much 'lost' in the music and easily missed. I was going to grade as Mint- but Near Mint is more than fair.
Now 'Pepperland Laid Waste' does play with immaculate precision, clarity does not get better than this! Again you cannot ignore how quiet this is for the majority which makes the playback even more impressive. Mint-
'Yellow Submarine In Pepperland' ends this stunning album with, you guessed it, incredible clarity and definition. There is no inner groove distortion and it just plays beautifully. A Mint- finish for certain.
In summary you can't really get much better than this! The clarity, warmth and depth of the audio on both sides is so good and this is as close to a final upgrade album that you will find. S1 is so impressive and the only 'negative' if you can call it that is the inner groove distortion on the final track but then this is vinyl and is a small price to pay! S2 though plays with a clarity that is second to none. So rarely does it play with such precision and I am sure any avid collector would be as equally impressed as I am. A stunning first press in every way.
Visual grading
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a lovely glossy sheen. There are no scratches and only a small number of very faint hairlines. Admittedly there is a more obvious hairline mark across the final tracks on S1 but it has no affect on the audio whatsoever. That really is the only 'negative' and it would be difficult to find a cleaner first pressing. There are only a couple of faint spindle traces on each label and with has very clean run out grooves also.
The Cover
The laminated G & L cover with the red lines on the back is in excellent shape with only minimal wear. The edges and thin pinched spine are in superb order with no rubbing and the corners are also extremely clean with barely any wear, how rare is that! The opening edge has no handling wear at all. The front cover has two very small laminate creases that you can only see when held at a certain angle and 2/3 minor creases next to the spine. There is also a slight marking next to the opening edge on a couple of sections because this very thin section is not actually laminated. The back cover is very clean with only a couple of very small marks and the flipbacks remain firmly in place with minimal staining on the edges. There is a little creasing bottom right that is all. Overall this is a fine example of this first press cover that is rarely seen this clean.
The Inner Sleeve
The original black inner is in great condition when you consider it is made of paper. There are no side splits or marking and barely any creasing.
The Labels
The Apple labels are in superb order with no marking or writing and only a couple of very small and faint spindle traces on each side.
