The Beatles : Yellow Submarine 1/1 1st Stereo Press (Red Lines) 1969

This genuine first stereo pressing plays with great quality for the vast majority.  S1 in particular is very impressive and the only intrusion really is one dull click at the end of the side on the fade out!  This side so often plays with a distorted sound on many of the tracks but the audio here is very clean indeed.  S2 has a little more static on the first 3/4 tracks but it's never overpowering and the final three tracks play with stunning quality.  The vinyl is in excellent condition also with very little marking.

The laminated cover is in great condition and of course has the red lines on the back.  The back cover incidentally is very clean and of course is not laminated.  The inner sleeve is in excellent condition.

As this is a true first press the bottom flipback is blank with no printer credit.  The labels have the 'Sold in U.K. subject...' text and ''An E.M.I. recording'' is on two lines.  It usually comes with a black inner but this is a plain white die-cut one so may be a replacement unless they were also used at the time?

The audio on S1 is Mint(-) (T5 Near Mint / T6 Ex+)

The audio on S2 is Ex (T2 VG+ / T5 & T6 Near Mint / T7 Near Mint-)

The laminated cover is a very strong Ex

The inner sleeve is Ex

The labels are Mint-

Visual description

The vinyl is in great condition and still has a strong glossy sheen with no obvious marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can only see a few faint hairlines and some minor 'specks', perhaps a few more on S2 but there is nothing that stands out.  There is no groove or surface wear and the Apple labels are incredibly clean with hardly any spindle wear.

Play grading

The opening vocal on 'Yellow Submarine' plays perfectly as does the first chorus.  There is no intrusion and it proceeds in exactly the same way.  The psychedelic mid section is faultless and the final vocal again has no ticks, clicks, pops or static and the long fade out has only a couple of minor statics.  Maybe I should say Mint but I will say Mint-

'Only A Northern Song' has a couple of barely audible statics on the intro and Harrison's opening vocal plays with great clarity.  I often find this track suffers from static distortion, maybe it's down to the production, but this version I don't mind saying is stunning.  There is nothing getting in the way despite its psychedelic 'busy' structure.  Every vocal and instrumental passage plays with exceptional clarity and the fade out is perfect.  Mint- again.

The acoustic intro on 'All Together Now' is 'as new' McCartney's opening vocal is just as strong.  It continues in much the same way - perhaps ever so slightly 'muddy' but I'm probably shooting myself in the foot by even saying that!  I actually think it might still be the cleanest version I have ever heard - like I say production 'levels'.  The fast paced end section is superb and Mint- is still a fair assessment of the audio.

The intro on 'Hey Bulldog' plays very clearly with only a minimal touch of distortion and the opening vocal section is superb.  The audio is very powerful and clean and the mid instrumental is very similar.  The next vocal again has no intrusion and the remainder plays with a strong, dynamic sound also.  From start to finish there is no interference and Mint- is again deserved.

'It's All Too Much' is a track that is often unlistenable due to too much inner groove distortion.  However, this version is easily one of the finest versions I have ever heard.  Perhaps it's the mono ones that are more affected?  This stereo rendition plays with very clean audio and in my opinion there is no distortion.  Maybe a little towards the 'busy' end and just a minor 'muddy' sound here and there but overall it's a stunning example of this Harrison number.  Let's say Near Mint

'All You Need Is Love' ends S1 with very strong audio.  You never get perfect clarity of sound on either the mono or stereo versions but this is much cleaner than usual!  Yep some vocal distortion as is common but it does seem a little harsh to downgrade it because it's always there!  In fact the only background on this side is one dull click near the end of the fade out so I will say Ex+ overall.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

'Pepperland' on S2 plays very clearly but with some light statics here and there.  No clicks or pops though.  The louder orchestral sections play with great quality.  Ex

'Sea Of Time' again plays with intermittent static and a handful of light ticks but the second half does play with an improved clarity of sound.  There are a few dull sounds towards the end so I will say VG+ overall.

Up next is 'Sea Of Holes' and it definitely plays more clearly with only minimal light static.  Just a bit more static towards the end.  Ex

From start to finish 'Sea Of Monsters' certainly plays with greater clarity and the depth of sound is very impressive also.  However, I'll still say Ex as there are a couple of ticks at the end.

'March Of The Meanies' then plays with stunning clarity.  Funny really because I was expecting every track to play with some static but this is close to perfect with only a couple of minor ticks.  Near Mint

More good news 'Pepperland Laid Waste' plays in much the same way.  The quiet intro plays with exceptional clarity and this level does not drop.  I only heard a handful of very quiet statics.  Sonically it is superb and especially during the powerful moments at the end.  Near Mint

The intro on 'Yellow Submarine In Pepperland' has barely any static and the first 'chorus' plays with sublime clarity and depth.  The following quieter section is very similar, a small number of very light statics only, and the closing section plays with stunning quality for a final track.  Near Mint-

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The cover is in excellent condition with minimal shelf wear.  The edges are perfect and the thin pinched spine is superb with no marking and hardly any wear on the corners.  The right hand corners are in excellent shape also and the opening edge has very little handling wear, it's just slightly 'wavy' in a couple of sections.  The laminated front cover is so clean with only a small number of minor creases around the edges and the back cover is in superb condition when you consider it isn't laminated.  It has only minimal faint marking, mainly by the opening edge, and the flipbacks remain firmly attached to the cover.  They are very clean with only a little marking on the edges that you often find.  A fine example overall.

The plain white die-cut inner is in great condition with no side splits or tears, minimal marking and only a little creasing.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
