Description
THE BEATLES&FRANK IFIELD ON STAGE JOLLY WHAT VJLP 1085
Item: Jolly What! - The Beatles & Frank Ifield On Stage
Catalog: Vee-Jay VJLP 1085
ORIGINAL LP
Date of Issue: 1964
You are viewing a very rare copy of the Beatles LP "Jolly What! England's Greatest Recording Stars The Beatles & Frank Ifield On Stage" - Original Copy of the 1964 LP Vee-Jay # VJLP 1085 - I purchased this record with some other original records all from the same era - This is a super rare original pressing of The Beatles & Frank Ifield in Mono. The LP is Guaranteed Original and it is the correct dark purplish color and the cover does have the spine printing verifying its authenticity. This is what is considered the First mono record variation, as it has a black label featuring an oval logo with an outer rim colorband and left justified artist-only credits. Its trail off areas include the following hand etched markings: the matrix number 64-3852 on Side 1 and 64-3853 on Side 2; the job number 6295 on Side 1 and 6295X on Side 2; and the date 1-18-64 and “URJ” on side one. and "URJ" on side two (either the date was mistakenly omitted, or I am just not seeing it). Both sides also contain the machine stamped MR and Audio Matrix logos. This variation was pressed by Monarch Records in California. The 47 year old, thick album cover is in Very Good condition and will still be a highlight in any collection. There is no tape, tears or writing. But there is a lower left corner 7/8" seam split, a wrinkle in the lower right and some very light ring wear along the bottom - There is some typical shelf wear along the bottom seam and some balding of the corners. The liner notes in back are clean, with just a hint of discoloration. The black shiny record would definitely benefit from a correct cleaning, but I will leave that up to the new owner. The labels are clean, showing only a few light spindle marks. I inspected this rare record under a 100 watt light and there were no bad scratches or groove lines, just some typical surface scratches/scuffs/paper cuts, a few a little worse than others, but that which would be expected from a taken care of but played record of this vintage.
Based on the Goldmine guide, the album cover is graded VG, and the record a strong VG. A very rare lp in any condition and a must for any Beatles LP or Vintage Rock 'n Roll LP Collector - NO RESERVE!
GRADING GUIDELINES!
(NM or NM-) NM records are shiny with no visible defects such as writing, stickers or needle marks on the labels. The album cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits or any signs of human handling. It also will have no ring wear.
(VG+) or (Excellent) May show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling are OK.show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. The cover might be marred by a cutout marking, small hole punch, a cut in the spine or a promotional stamp and even a tiny bit of ring wear.
(VG) Have more obvious flaws such as lack of gloss, groove wear, light scratches and needle marks. When played there will be surface noise that will not overpower the music overall. Noise in the passages, between songs is common. The cover may have minor seam splits, writing, tape, stickers, ring wear and scuffs.
(VG-) Is just a compounding of the VG category. Many obvious flaws but if the record is rare, may very well be worthwhile. I usually do not list records lower than the above grades.
Please remember when you are bidding, most of these records are usually 40-50+ years old and have been out of print for a very long time. When you consider that, damage, loss, and normal use or wear has reduced the market to the point that few of these wonderful treasures are even available today.
