Description
This is a first pressing stereo copy of the album “Help!” by The Beatles, released in 1965 on the Parlophone label (PCS 3071). It has a Garrod & Lofthouse designed laminated flip back sleeve with outlined “STEREO” and its original “Emitex” rice paper-lined inner sleeve. It has black and yellow labels with silver text and the “Recording first Published 1965” and “Sold in the UK…” text on the labels (see photos). It also has the embossed “KT” on the label, indicative of a first press (pre 1 Jul 1965).
I would grade the laminated flip back outer sleeve as “Very Good Minus”. There is some corner wear to all 4 corners. There is some edge wear to all edges and to the mouth of the sleeve and a small (1.5 cm) split to the bottom edge. The spine is square and legible with some small spots and creases. There are some small laminate creases around the edges of the front cover. The back cover has some age-related discolouration/staining and there are some creases to the flip backs which are, however, intact.
I would grade the disc as “Very Good Plus“. The disc retains a very good shine. There are some barely visible hairlines due to removal from the sleeve over the years. The album plays very well with only occasional light background noise and the odd pop. There is no skipping or jumping anywhere on the album.
I would grade both labels as “Very Good”. There is some spindle wear and some light rub marking and spotting to both (see photos).
The original “Emitex” inner sleeve I would grade as “Very Good Plus”. There is light creasing and only very slight discolouration due to age.
Matrices: Side 1 – YEX 168-1” Stampers “3” and “RT”
Side 2 – YEX 169-1” Stampers “2” and “OO”
Classifications are in accordance with Record Collector Magazine’s Record Collector Grading System and are possibly slightly pessimistic compared to some other sellers/collectors.
