Description
Here's an amazing find: a vintage 1950s LP with orchestrations by Lionel Newman and Billy May in brand new, still sealed condition!
Offered here is Liberty LRP 3017, which features music from the 20th Century Fox cinemascope musical, "The Best Things in Life Are Free." The movie was a musical biopic of songwriters Buddy DeSylva, Lew Brown, and Ray Henderson, who are played by Dan Dailey, Gordon Macrae and Ernest Borgnine, with lovely Sheree North as the love interest. However, other than appearing on the gorgeous full color cover photo, none of those performers sings on on this album, which is in fact devoted to orchestral interpretations of the film's standard songs as conducted by Lionel Newman, with arrangements by the legendary Billy May.
But what makes this item so incredible is that after some 60 years, it is still sealed in the original shrinkwrap, as fresh as the day it was pressed in the 1950s! What's even more surprising is that it has a promotional stamp on the back cover that reads "Promotional, Not For Sale," which means it was one of the earliest pressings of this album. And despite it being a promotional release, the album has no drill holes, cut-outs or other marks of any kind.
When's the last time you saw a vintage original Lionel Newman or Billy May album from the '50s in brand new, still-sealed condition? Don't let this one slip past--you may not see the likes of it ever again!
This item is one of a large collection of vintage Broadway cast albums and movie soundtrack LPs that I’m currently listing on eBay, many of them still sealed original pressings. I invite you to peruse the other selections by clicking the “See Other Items” link in the “Seller Information” box on the right hand side at the top of this listing. If you order more than one item in a single transaction, I will be able to combine the shipping and pass the savings in postage costs on to you. (If the postage savings aren’t reflected in your Paypal invoice for the multiple items, go ahead and pay it anyway—I’ll refund the difference back to your account after I’ve prepared and shipped your items.) Speaking of shipping, as a longtime record collector myself, I take pride in packaging and shipping record albums carefully and securely in LP mailer cartons that were designed to protect your precious cargo from the rigors of shipping.
If the item you receive is not as described, I will be happy to accept returns of items that are shipped back in the same condition as sent. Please note that I am unable to accept returns on new and still sealed media, including record albums, if the shrinkwrap seal has been opened by the buyer. Thanks for your understanding!
