Gleaming gloss vinyl has few very light hairlines that are almost entirely inaudible. LP plays extremely clean high EX+ to NM throughout. 1st issue 360 SOUND '2-Eye' labels are immaculate.

COVER is EX
Super clean, with very light shelf wear to front only. No creases, writing or soil. Snapping bright back is NM. Seams and spine 100% intact with no wear or splits. All edges straight, all corners sharp.

It's not overstating to say that The Byrds' debut is the font from which all Folk-Rock spouts.
The Bob Dylan-penned title track hit No. 1 two months before the album arrived, in the process heralding a new sound that braided involved lyrics with a driving beat, chiming guitars, and sublime, trippy vocal harmonies.

The album (and, indeed, it is an album, rather than a haphazard collection of songs, as was the standard of the day) followed through on the promise of the title track single. Four of the dozen songs on this original pressing are Dylan compositions, but the originals from Gene Clark and McGuinn nearly match their appeal, particularly Clark-penned "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better", perhaps the quintessential Byrds tune.

For all the Byrds' glory, legend and evolution, it is these earliest days that were their brightest - and while Gene Clark, original lead singer was only around a short while (less than 2 1/2 albums) his contribution was incalculable. Indeed of the 5 originals written by the Byrds members, 3 are Gene Clark compositions with the other 2 being Clark/McGuinn co-writing. ...That's JIM McGuinn, the original Byrds mastermind, well before he changed his name to Roger McGuinn - and his allegiances to the Subud religion and nose-candy.

Of the covers, Dylan's "Chimes of Freedom", "All I Really Want To Do" and Pete Seeger's "The Bells of Rhymney" are absolute highlights in a near-perfect album filled with stand-out tracks

There is a feel and spirit here that simply soars. The 6 and 12-string Rickenbacker interplay, the spine-chilling vocal harmonies and the back and forth lead singing of McGuinn and Clark were potent enough to give both The Beatles and The Beach Boys serious pause. Indeed Brian Wilson, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and especially George Harrison all were quoted numerous times in these earliest days as saying how absolutely knocked out they were by The Byrds' sound -The Byrds and Beatles (not to be bested) would go on to spur each other on to ever-greater heights of Rickenbacker heaven - and, Brian Wilson doubled-down on The Beach Boys harmony sound -coming up with more intricate, inspired and revolutionary harmonies, in response.

I can recall seeing The Byrds playing Mr. Tambourine Man live on the SHINDIG T.V. show when the single first hit, not knowing yet who they were, and being mesmerized -by the mystique and look as well as the sound. One fan-for-life, at least, was made that day in 1965.

The Byrds had landed - and the Folk-Rock was now the new force to be reckoned with; even Bob Dylan immediately going full-on electric in the wake of this LP.
