Description

Continuing the sale of some of my classic albums from the 60s, 70s and 80s I am now offering this early copy of The Byrds Mr Tambourine Man from 1965. There are two variants of the original releases in the UK from 1965. This copy was purchased by me as a teenager and I put my name on the back cover with a Dymo label maker. Unfortunately it is almost impossible to remove so I advertise it as proof of provenance. Similar albums have been sold with this label so I leave it to you to decide.

As I have owned this album for nearly sixty years, and always wanting to provide a genuine description of the vinyl and the cover, I assess the laminated cover as being VG+ and the vinyl as EX+. Providing accurate information guarantees honesty for any potential buyer so that no surprises are revealed when purchased. The laminated front cover has a minor crease and the spine is not fully legible (please see photos). However, having play graded the album I can honestly it plays superbly throughout with no scratches, pops or clicks and minimal surface noise between tracks. The sound is truly astonishing for such an early stereo pressing with great dynamics and separation. There are a few hairlines in the vinyl that do not have any impact on the music.

This debut album was released in June 1965 on Columbia Records produced by Terry Melcher. This early version closely resembles the labels and sleeve of The Byrds Mr Tambourine Man. The only difference being the printer on the bottom right of the sleeve. This version has a laminated front but no flip back. Catalogue number 62571 is on the spine. Rear bottom right on the back cover “Printed and made by E. J. Day, London.” Orange labels with black text.

A great opportunity to own this 1965 early pressing of this sought after stereo copy of the Byrds seminal album that still sounds superb.
