With Hollywood's all-star studio supergroup "Wrecking Crew". Musicians include Steve Douglas, Bruce Johnston (later a Beach Boy), Ray Pohlman, Hal Blaine, Tom Tedesco, Billy Strange, Jerry Kole (Cole), Lew (Leon) Russell. Produced by T.M. Productions (Terry Melcher, Byrds / Super Stocks etc. - producer and leader of "The Rip Chords" and - with Bruce Johnston - "Bruce and Terry"). Melcher co-wrote Side 2 lead-off track "Hot Rod U.S.A.". and, with Bruce Johnston, "Queen of The Hot Rods". The song "Beach Ball" was written by Jim McGuinn just before he inaugerated the Byrds

THE CATALINAS lived up to their impressive pedigree. In addition to rarely-heard tunes penned by pre-Byrds Jim McGuinn and Bobby Darin(!), the album features potent versions of such surf and hot rod classics as “Surfin’ U.S.A.,” “Wipe Out”, “I Get Around” and “Summer Means Fun”. Highlights also include originals: “Banzai Washout”, "Beach Walkin'" and "Boss Barracuda".

Officially titled simply "FUN".
Due to the repetition of the word on the cover it has become generally known as "FUN FUN FUN".

The first wave of the surf music explosion spawned countless short-lived bands and one-shot studio projects. Many of those projects were quickly forgotten, but a handful have continued to inspire hushed reverence among surf aficionados. The latter category includes The Catalinas’ lone album, originally released in 1964 and out of print for more than four decades.
