VINYL: VG+: Pressed deep on heavy, inflexible vinyl. Black & shiny with a few light surface marks/faint scuffs. Looks EX but has minor surface noise, mainly in quiet spots.

COVER : EX:  Spine and  both seams intact & sharp. Minor ring wear & shelf wear. Opening edge is sharp. Lamination on front is intact. Made from heavy, thick stock white cardboard. This classic '50s Jazz cover comes close to a NM- grade.

INNER SLEEVE: Audiophile (+ original wax paper)

LABELS : A few faint spindle marks, otherwise sharp. Original purple New Jazz labels.

RANDOM NOTES: A very groovy set of sides from THE CATS. This all-star jam is led by John Coltrane & Kenny Burrell along with Idrees Sulieman on trumpet & Tommy Flanagan on piano plus a rhythm section of Doug Watkins (bass) & Louis Hayes (drums). Mr. Flanagan writes 4 of the 5 songs, including "Minor Mishap" & the lengthy "Tommy's Tune".

A SIMPLE VINYL GRADING SYSTEM :

Mint: Still Sealed/Unplayed/Unopened
Mint minus (M-): New and Possibly Unplayed ; a rarely used grade.
Near Mint (NM): Like-new, with little or no visible wear; very collectible.
Near Mint minus (NM-): almost like-new, perhaps very slight signs of age, play or wear that are strictly cosmetic.
Excellent (EX) Very Good double-plus (VG++): Way above average, very nice, no serious flaws; played, not abused.
Very Good plus (VG+): An above average used LP; a few visible surface marks or paper scuffs; slight surface noise.
Very Good (VG) : An average used LP, far from perfect; a few light scratches. Some noise; plays through, no skips.
Very Good minus (VG-) : Reveals lots of wear when viewed or spun but is not actually defective or warped.




LP Cover grading is a much less exact, more subjective science. Generally, the truly collectible grades range from Mint to Excellent (VG++) depending on general wear. Main cover flaws such as split seams or spine splits, ring wear, cut or bent corners, hole punches, writing, water damage etc. should always be mentioned in a proper auction listing. Your item will be packaged with tender loving care. Records are always removed from jackets for shipping & are securely packed in nice new inner sleeves & polysleeves & then packed inside thick cardboard album mailers along with stiff cardboard inserts & sheets of bubble wrap to help provide a safe delivery.

All records are professionally sight-graded, only sometimes play-graded. Please keep in mind that used LPs from the '50s & '60s are very rarely found in actual Mint condition, seldom in Near Mint. Proper record grading involves skill, knowledge & honesty, not wishful thinking.
