HERE is one of the hottest, most rambunctious and surprising jazz records ever made: the September, 1926 "THE CHANT" and "BLACK BOTTOM STOMP" by JELLY ROLL MORTON AND HIS RED HOT PEPPERS. Each piece is an amazing orchestral tour-de-force, a fantastic, entirely satisfying experience.
It's been written about countless times by breathless jazz writers over the years. If Jelly had made only this one terrific record, his genius as a composer, pianist, orchestrator and leader still would be secure today.

This original 1939 Bluebird 10253, a splendidly master-pressed reissue of Victor 20221 (and on superior "Z" material* to boot), is in gleaming EE+ condition. Remains of stickum from an adhesive label harmlessly adheres to the "land" area of "The Chant."
* "Z" material was the quietest, top-grade shellac, with the highest signal-to-noise ratio, ever created. At first, Victor used it only for operatic and symphonic records, but by the late '30s, started employing it on popular releases, with spectacular results.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
