Description

THE COLLECTORS - same, Canadian psych band's rare 1968 debut lp, in shrink

m-/ m- . Green label Warner Bros with blue "W" in orange box label logo. Like new cond.!

Scarce debut lp by noted Canadian band, with super-trippy, moody, melodic songs in a "mind's eye" psych vein such as "She (Will-O -The-Wind)," "One Act Play," and "What Is Love," plus what is probably the definitive cover version of Dunn and McCashen's "Lydia Purple" (a song later covered by other bands, such as the Dutch prog band Cargo) done in a haunting, ethereal style. Also featured is the group's own "Howard Christman's Older," (a strange song about savants) which was later covered by the L.A. hard rock band Azurite in the late '70s. Rounding things out is the side long cut "What Love (Suite)" clocking in at nearly 20 minutes, which may tend to drag a bit in spots but is very good in the heavier passages. Produced by Dave Hassinger. Though from Canada, this band was a mainstay on the California scene for a short while in the '60s, as evidenced by concert posters and handbills of the day. Really a very solid psych album.

Cover is still in shrink and is very near to mint, with a light 1" of wear to corner/corner split where the shrink has split a tiny bit (about 1 1/2"). Record looks pristine, lustrous, like new and should play accordingly A truly uncommon find in this condition. Some passages may reveal very light surface noise.
