The "EAST" Anomaly If you look closely at the center label of Side B or Side D, you will see these letters embossed into the plastic.
  • The Look: The letters are raised, very faint, and arranged in a circle directly around the center spindle hole.
  • The Trick: Often, you can only see the "T" or the "A" because the paper label covers up the "E" and "S" during the manufacturing process.
Why Is It There? Specialty Records Corporation used a specific type of multi-cavity pressing machine manufactured by Apex. These machines featured an internal cooling and alignment ring that had the word "EAST" stamped into the metal mold. When the hot vinyl was compressed against the label, the word was embossed into the center ring of the record. What This Confirms About Your Record Finding DMM, SS5, and EAST together on your copy confirms three things:
  1. Genuine First Pressing: It is a 100% authentic, original 1987 US retail copy.
  2. Top Audio Quality: Your record was pressed using one of the earliest stamper plates (#5) off the original UK master tapes.
  3. The Plant: It was physically manufactured at the Olyphant, Pennsylvania plant.

Shipping & Packaging:
The record will be safely removed from the outer jacket prior to packing to completely prevent seam splits during transit. Shipped securely in a heavy-duty, cardboard with extra padding.
