The Deviants : Ptoof! 1W / 1W 1st Press 1969 Decca
This first pressing on the Decca label plays with stunning quality. The clarity, definition and warmth of the audio is unbelievable and with only a couple of minor ticks on S1 this is as close to perfect as is possible. It easily qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE archive classic I cannot praise it highly enough. There are no clicks or pops and no background static either, you would not believe how clean and precise the audio is! It's such an interesting album - melodic in certain sections, psychedelic in others and with a definite punk feel in other sections before punk was invented! The vinyl is in superb shape with only some faint superficial 'bag rash' on S1.
The cover is a work of art! It is stunning with hardly any wear and the back cover which isn't laminated is incredibly clean. The original Decca inner sleeve (dated 4-70) is in great condition also.
I know this isn't strictly speaking a first press as it was originally pressed on the 'Underground' label in 1968. It is however a genuine first press on the Decca label.

Visual description
The vinyl is in great condition and still has a strong glossy sheen with no obvious marks or scratches. S1 does have a little bag rash / contour lines but this is faint and has zero impact on the superb audio. No such issue with S2 which is visually stunning. Both sides have hardly any hairlines and the Decca labels are super clean with only minimal spindle wear on S1.
Play Grading
The 'Opening' plays perfectly and then the intro on 'I'm Coming Home' has no background either. The opening vocal has two static ticks at the beginning and then plays with exceptional clarity and definition. As Farren's vocal increases in volume there is no loss in quality and the mid instrumental section is stunning. Superb psych guitar from Farren! The quieter vocal section plays with perfect clarity and it proceeds in the same precise way. The sonic quality is absolutely stunning - you can turn it up to max without fear of distortion and the brief pause is 100% silent. The closing section is loud and powerful and again could not play any better. I will grade the intro as Near Mint but the rest is Mint in every sense of the word. What a start!
'Child Of The Sky' plays beautifully through every section. The acoustic intro has only one very quiet static and the first vocal section then plays with a clarity and warmth that is second to none. There is no background not even a solitary dust tick! It continues to play with such a clean, precise sound and I cannot overstate just how STUNNING the audio is. The playback is clinical - seriously for such a quiet track from a '69 vinyl to play with such clarity is a genuine rarity. Farren's vocal is very high in the mix and could not 'sound' any clearer. I'm tempted to grade as Mint but there because there are a couple of minor statics I will say Mint- but you will not find a cleaner version.
The intro on 'Charlie' has barely any static and the opening vocal is just as impressive. It continues to play with deep, strong audio and the next instrumental piece is a case in point. No intrusion. It's quite a sparse track driven by Rees bass much like the first track and again there are no ticks, clicks or pops. This is clearly a record that has been so well preserved. To the final note it plays with sublime quality and again Mint- is deserved.
The intro on 'Nothing Man' has only a hint of barely audible static at the beginning and then the percussive section plays to perfection. From then on it plays with unbelievable quality - the spoken / 'choral' section is incredible! Another track that belies the age of the album - a true psych number with numerous interesting 'sounds' it plays with STUNNING quality right through to the very end. I will grade as Mint- again but even including the minus does seem a little harsh!

The intro on 'Garbage' plays with perfect clarity and the opening vocal section is equal to that. The 'chorus' has no intrusion and the following instrumental is 'as new' without a doubt, there is no background whatsoever. Definite elements of the as yet unknown punk scene here! It continues to play with phenomenal audio and I have nothing but praise for this version. A unique track and every section plays with STUNNING quality. You think it has ended and then the closing instrumental passage is superb. This is a Mint start to S2.
The delicate 'Bun' plays with sublime clarity and warmth from start to finish. It is of course so quiet and yet there is not a single tick, click or pop and there is no background static either. A handful of barely audible dust ticks at most but it has to grade as Mint as the playback is so clean and precise.
The opening on 'Deviation Street' is flawless and the following quiet section is just as strong. The first 'vocal' has no interference and this standard is kept up as it progresses. There are so many varying sections and again the sonic quality is of a level that you so rarely find on 60s vinyl. Running at nearly 10 minutes it is quite simply stunning, I cannot find one single negative. The clarity and definition of the 'sound' is incredible and I defy anyone to find a better version! It's a total 'mash up' of different styles and they all play with unrivalled quality. The raucous end section concludes the track with impeccable depth and power and, it goes without saying, no intrusion. This also has to grade as Mint as it just could not play any better. Uniquely weird and superb in equal measure!
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The laminated cover is in superb condition with only minimal shelf wear. The edges have no wear and the spine is in great shape also with only minor compression / indentation. The corners are very clean with barely any wear and the opening edge has no handling wear. A tiny bit of feathering near the top that is all. The front cover is stunning with only some light laminate lift next to the spine but you can only see it when you hold the cover at a certain angle. The non-laminated back cover is so clean and has only the bare minimum of fading near the top edge and even less by the bottom edge. The mono / stereo indicator hole is perfect and overall this is a superb example of this cover.
The poly-lined Foreign patents pending Decca inner sleeve has no side splits or tears and is very clean with only a little glue residue showing around the edges as is common and a little creasing also.
Play tested on my Rega P2 with AT VM-95EN Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers
This record has been professionally cleaned on my Pro-Ject VC-S machine

Postage & Packaging
I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
