I will never compromise on quality, safe packaging – I NEVER use mailing envelopes that offer virtually no protection at all, and records WILL arrive damaged in them at some time as most record buyers will already know. Here, you get what you pay for – SAFE PACKING in BOXES using 7mm DOUBLE-WALL STIFFENERS including full side protection and bubble wrap, the records removed from the covers of course. All this very safe packing means I lose money on every box I post, but safe delivery is, and will always be paramount. You WILL see the difference when my packet arrives. Also, I will pay for insurance on any record that sells for over £100 at NO extra cost – that is UK and abroad. Also I aim to post the very same day after payment is received if possible. PLEASE NOTE: I will NOT send any item, no matter what its value without a Royal Mail or courier tracking number. ALL my items must be signed and trackable to comply with Ebay delivery rules. Please do NOT ask me to make any exceptions to this rule as no country offers 100% reliable service without it.

Posting to Russia: Yes, I do post to Russia. But delivery can take longer from the UK. So please be patient. I will submit a tracking number to the winning bidder, and when the packet arrives there it can be followed online using the Russian post website.

Label/Format: Elektra butterfly format with matt, smooth surfaces. These have no Warner logo and include the CBS ring ridges.

Label Conditions: All four immaculate, ultra clean, fresh and attractive with barely even a trace of a spindle marks. The four playing surfaces are superbly clean, and all sides play with beautiful clean sound.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Brief Info: A brilliant double live set, and superbly recorded, it includes new material and famed for its long version of ‘The Celebration of the Lizard’ – the musical part of Jim Morrison’s poem was included on the band’s third album Waiting for the Sun. This was initially intended to be the full version and to occupy the whole of one side, but the band decided it did not work. The full version of this famous epic was only performed at a very few of their concerts. This set was recorded between August 1969 to June 1970 and has no overdubbing, only edited to put a set like this together. Morrison is in fine voice here and the set has a fair degree of intensity, none more so than when Morrison bellows to the audience to ‘Shut Up!, when talking on a quiet passage clearly annoyed him. Both records appear hardly played and it could be one of the cleanest examples of this landmark live album that you may be offered. Not a very first issue, but two heavily pressed records and four superb clean playing surfaces with sound to match – both records appear hardly even played. This is the legendary Lizard King at his most intense, and it’s Absolutely Live!

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: and arguably better, this is very prone to wear, especially ring wear. An unlaminated gatefold format with matt, smooth surfaces. Printed and made in England by MacNeill, the white inner sleeves are included.

Cover Front: Like most matt gatefolds like this with two thick records inside, this is very prone to all forms of wear – ring wear especially – this is rarely seen without it. This front is in really lovely clean condition, the only tiny blemish is a small corner crease on the bottom left tip. Any other creasing minimal, as is any rim impression and the lack of rubbing or sticker issues means this difficult front cover is very impressive.

Cover Back: The back is very similar again.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Superb, little to fault inside at all.

Top Edges: Straight, flat and flush with any rubbing gentle, patchy and light.

Bottom Edges: Similar again with most of any rubbing near the very ends.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, still mostly sharp with any thickening little and light. Records enter on these open edges.

Spine and Text: A superb spine and rarely seen as such. Solid, straight with minimal compression, folded square, so the edges meet up closely together and virtually parallel. The text and surface barely rubbed or faded with no scuffs. This perilous area will be difficult to find better.

Corners: Any tip rubbing light with just the mild dink on the lower spine end. Mostly very fine shape retained apart.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this famous MacNeill cover, one that will prove difficult to find much better. Fans will know just how challenging this cover is, so this impressive one should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeves: EXCELLENT(+): two plain white unlined inners, both have a retailer’s identification code on one corner (114 D). The paper still clean and fresh with four pristine window circles and hardly any creasing. All edges naturally intact. Both have the same text in blue and include the ‘PATENT NO. 1,125,555’ text.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): a very fine visual pair that are very clean with equally fine shine and heavily pressed. Any surface traces minimal, very few and faint, these appear hardly played and plays as impressively as they look. Visually great looking records that should please most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Both records play up to, and even beyond their high visual grading with hardly anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. This is a well recorded and produced live set which is exceptional for it’s period. Any surface sound hardly even registered with no tracking issues* or inherent pressing noises. These lovely clean pressings for a fairly difficult album that have a few quiet passages. Certainly one of the cleanest looking and sounding copies I have ever heard, few will match or better these no matter when they are made. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this superb live album. They will prove very difficult to even match, let alone find better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.
