I will always keep my P&P prices as low as possible, and even after yet another Royal Mail price hike from April this year, I have NOT raised my prices and will never compromise on solid, safe packing that is invariably heavier than most you will get. Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with only a tiny few very light, fine and faint spindle marks and no wear around the hole area.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Rarity: Scarce: this was not a major seller for obvious reasons. Most seen are American copies, often with cut or drilled covers. UK originals are quite elusive, this copy appears hardly played as well.

Brief Info: The seventh Doors album, this being issued three months after the death of their iconic vocalist Jim Morrison. So the title is apt and appropriate. Some songs had been rehearsed according to Manzarek prior to Morrison leaving for France – the vocals now shared between Manzarek and Krieger. Clearly a near impossible gap to fill, but this album is actually very good, and as could be expected, in a similar mould to ‘LA Woman’ with a more blues oriented sound. Not a major seller and not even easily found on CD with only limited numbers made. A quite brave release so soon after the tragic event in Paris, but simply taken on merit, this is a very solid album and is more than worthy of having in a quality collection. UK copies are quite elusive and this is a really nice example that plays beautifully.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: or very close to. An unlaminated gatefold format with matt, smooth surfaces. Printed and made in England by Howards.

Cover Cosmetic Improvements: None Apparent.

Cover Front: Slight rub traces on the bottom edge with three or four very fine edge spine creases, but little else in terms of wear. There is a natural fine horizontal ‘line’ seen just below half way, this also aligns on the back. This being a natural mark from the gripper in manufacture. Having been in the printing trade for most of my working life, I am more than familiar with such marks seen on card and paper when it passed through the ‘finishing’ process. A really nice looking front with minimal traces of any grubbiness, ageing and no sticker marks.

Cover Back: All very similar with a gentle rim rub near the top. Minor set-off or grubbiness traces on the very edges here and there. Gatefold backs are always more prone to wear than the front with the record pressing against the card for many years. Both front and back remain attractive.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Superb portraits of the then three remaining Doors members – as most will know, Ray Manzarek sadly passed away in 2013. These very black matt surfaces both look impressive and lack the fingermarks so often seen on such formats. Very minor rub hints on the bottom of the right side with the odd tiny tip rub. All very impressive.

Top Edges: Both straight with any wear minimal and light. Also these lie flush and parallel.

Bottom Edges: All very similar, any minor rubbing on the back shows little on a white edge.

Right Edge(s), and Type: The front has a real tucked and folded edge that has hardly anything to fault. The back entrance edge is clean, mostly sharp with minimal traces of any wear. Any thickening or burring tiny and faint as seen viewed end-on. No trimming or enhancements guaranteed.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight with minimal compression and folded square, so the edges meet up very closely together and parallel. The odd small rub or indentation, but being a white surface again, it registers far less to the eye. All text close to perfect and equally well centred.

Corners: The spine pair are very crisp and impressive with little wear at all. Light to near moderate tip rubs on the right ones, white again so minimal visual impact. Very fine to excellent shape retained.

Cover Summary: A strong all-round example of this fairly scarce UK original cover, this is quite prone to wear and grubbiness, this has very little and could prove difficult to find much better. It should please many, if not most collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: NEAR EXCELLENT: but actually looks much better. This plain white unlined inner had a couple of smallish window circle tears which I have repaired as neatly as possible, this will stop the potential for them catching and becoming larger in the future. That apart, little else to fault on a hardly creased and little aged, basic inner. All edges unsplit with no repairs needed here.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): arguably even better. A super visual copy that is very clean with equally fine shine and quite solidly pressed. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface trace marks tiny, very few and faint as seen critically under bright angled light. Visually a super record that should please most-all collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quality blues-rock album plays up to, and even above it’s high visual grading with barely anything to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is an exceptional clean pressing. Few copies will outperform this early pressing significantly I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been generally well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this arguably under-appreciated record. Even issuing this album was a brave step, and I personally think it works very well. No new vocalist was employed, the band took on the vocal roles themselves – hence ‘Other Voices’. This one will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
