Where the Everly Brothers' early hits may sound too sweet to modern ears, thanks to their trademark vocal harmony, on Songs our Daddy Taught Us that same harmony sounds authentic and, at times, even fascinatingly eerie. Some of the songs included here are old time tales of drifters, murderers, and dying men full of confusion and regret. The brothers' traditional harmonies lend such songs the perfect feel of bittersweet folk ballads. Other songs are more traditional country love songs and songs of the South, but are still delivered with a genuine (if sentimental) love for the material.

Everly Brothers were the Royalty of Rock. With the possible exception of Flamingos, they are our favorite vocal-based Rock'n'Roll band EVER. Nothing and nobody - certainly no white performer - ever came close to the celestial harmonies Brothers were capable of producing. The importance of the Everlies in the development of modern Rock aesthetics cannot possibly be overestimated. They are simply one of the critical pillars of Rock'n'Roll. Regrettably, the better the Everly Brothers became, the poorer they sold. By almost universal acclaim, On this, probably the hardest-to-find of all Everly's EARLY  albums the brothers tackle the great folk and traditional songs. Unburdened by the overbearing, string-laden studio arrangements, Brothers unleash a torrent of harmonies unheard of since the time of Mozart. The Brothers reach new level of celestial harmonies here, and we guarantee that you will, too. Your rock'n'roll education is (very) deficient and flawed without this album. (a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         The album comes with its original, 'rice paper' inner sleeve (typically used in the 50’s and very early 60’s) which has - apparently with success - shielded the vinyl from the harmful impact of elements over many years! We believe that, despite great technological progress, these early 'rice paper' inner sleeves provided a degree of protection MUCH HIGHER than any other material used ever since.

(d)         Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(e)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)

-       Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging (nothing significant)

-       Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease)  in one of the corners.

-       Cover has one corner slightly worn / dinged
