Label:   DECCA (UK).   Labels are black with silver text.  Stereophonic pressing on medium weight vinyl, with deep groove.  Catalog number is SXL 2017.

Year:  recording first published 1958 (per label info)

Condition: 

DISC:  Vinyl is EXCELLENT with full original gloss.  Appears to have been played not more than one or two times, and handled with utmost care.  Side 1 has two very faint paper scuffs, Side 2 is flawless.  Labels are clean, except DECCA is blackened out with crayon (see explanation below).  This marvelous LP is one that you will never need to upgrade.      

JACKET:  Laminated Clairifoil jacket is VG+.  Front artwork is nice and bright.  “Decca” logo on front and reverse show traces of where the original importer marked through the trade name due to licensing issues (see explanation below).  A few slight traces of ring wear just beginning to appear.  Nice seams and spine.  Light wear at corners and along opening edge.  Reverse has darkened slightly with age, and there is a crease down the center of the reverse panel.  Overall a decent jacket to accompany the beautiful disc.     

Original poly-lined inner sleeve is included in nice condition, except where original importer marked out the references to DECCA due to licensing issues. 

IMPORTANT NOTE:  I recently found this album along with several other vintage UK classical albums, in a collection where the albums all bore similar characteristics, in that all references to the record company – in this case DECCA – were marked out and/or scribbled upon with black crayon or felt marker so that they would be obscured.  I found this on both the front and reverse of the outer jacket, on the poly-lined inner sleeve, and on the record label itself.  I was quite puzzled by this, until I consulted with a close friend who has been professionally involved in the record industry for more than 50 years, and he informed me that this was a common characteristic of albums that were imported from England for resale in the United States back in the 1950s-60s where, because of licensing issues, any and all references to Decca (U.K.) had to be obliterated or else the articles would not clear Customs.   Please be assured that this in no way affects the vinyl, and that the vinyl for this album is virtually unblemished and will sound amazing.  I made some efforts to remove the markings where I felt it would improve the cosmetics (particularly on the outer jacket), but in the end I believe collectors are interested first and foremost in the sound qualities of these extraordinary recordings, and that the cosmetics of the label and sleeve are of secondary and even minimal importance.
