The Fool - S/T (1969)

"...The Fool (1969) is an interesting psychedelic artifact from Dutch multimedia artists Simon Kooer, Marijke Kooer, Josje Leeger, and Barry Finch. Their craft was primarily visual and, other than the denizens of the mid-'60s London "Carnaby fashion" scene, few had heard of the combo until an interview with Patti Boyd Harrison Clapton (aka "Layla") by Daily Mirror fashion editor Felicity Green. She revealed that they had been responsible for not only her trippy garb, but also much of the Beatles' more outlandish gear. Their subsequent high-profile gigs included designing the entire exterior of the Fab Four's short-lived Apple boutique on Baker Street, as well as a hand-painted Rolls-Royce and grand piano for John Lennon.
"The Fool's work graced some of the most distinct 12" record jackets from the late '60s, including the Incredible String Band's 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion (1967) and the self-titled debut from the Move (1968). Their association with the producer of this effort, Graham Nash, can be traced to their involvement with designing the cover of Evolution (1967) for the Hollies.
"Their brand of acoustic psychedelia reveals distinct similarities to the folk-based Incredible String Band. Their influence is particularly evident on "Inside Your Mind," "Fly," and "Reincarnation," which all feature choral lead vocals and gypsy-esque use of hand percussion with a decidedly English-flavored balladry. "No One Will Ever Know" is an amazingly catchy and uptempo tune with trippy hypnotic vocals from Marijke and Josje. "Rainbow Man" rocks a bit harder than most of the album, sporting a solid Bo Diddley backbeat and acoustic freewheelin' vibe. "Keep On Pushin'" is a fun R&B-tinged instrumental with impassioned harmonica blows and suitably atonal bagpipe solos..."
