THE FRAYS – ‘Walk On’ b/w ‘Keep Me Covered’ ORIG Decca Demo 45 // F 12153 (UK, Mono, 1965)
Here’s the debut single from The Frays featuring the fierce, scorching ‘Keep Me Covered’ co-penned (I think) by Mike Patto and surely one of the very finest UK R & B cuts of all time! Happy to offer the original UK demo, released on 14th May, 1965.
The sleeve is an orange Decca company affair and in EX (Excellent) shape.
The demo labels look good. They have the faint remains of a catalogue stamp and some (near invisible) light pen traces to the A. Light to moderate spindle evidence, mainly to the A, which means the label to ‘Keep Me Covered’ is the better of the two.
The vinyl shows several marks – mainly light scuffing and quite a few wispy hairlines. Nothing deep or feelable but evidently a ‘used’ disc with surface marks but NOTHING which affects the play of this seminal stomper. Visual grade VG – (Very Good Minus).
IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO throughout and plays SUPERBLY. So expect NO snap, crackle or pop, NO repeated clicks and NO distortion or groove wear / loss of clarity or definition. The play grade belies the superficial marking and is therefore much better than the visual one at EX+ (Excellent Plus).
