The Gods : To Samuel A Son 2 / 2 1st Press 1969 EMI
This classic first pressing plays with stunning quality for the vast majority. The only 'real' background is a little interference on the S1 intro but aside from that the clarity and depth of the audio is incredible. S2 especially is out of this world! I mean S1 is very impressive but S2 really takes it to another level, so many highlights too numerous to mention! In saying though 'Momma I Need' is a genuine stand out track.
The laminated G & L cover is in superb condition with only minimal wear and the original EMI inner is also in great condition. It has no side splits etc which is quite impressive for a 56 year old piece of paper! This first pressing has only single stampers - the 'holy grail' G on S1 and R on S2.

Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a strong look and no scratches. S1 has a thumbnail mark on the first track but it has no impact on the audio and under a bright light I can only see a handful of ultra faint hairlines. S2 is slightly glossier than S1 and there is no groove or surface wear. S2 has one very small 'speckled' area but again it's very faint and has no affect on the superb audio. The EMI labels are so close to perfect with no marking and hardly any spindle wear.
Play Grading
The organ intro on 'To Samuel A Son' has some light static and some ticks, couple of static clicks a little further in but settles down after about 40 seconds. As the volume increases the audio is superb, there is no background, and then the opening vocal section is nigh on perfect. The instrumental bridge has barely any background and the next vocal is flawless. The remainder is the same with only minimal light static on the fade out. The intro is VG but the rest deserves to be graded as Near Mint
The intro on 'Eight O'Clock In The Morning' is strong and deep with zero intrusion and the opening vocal is perfect. It continues in the same precise way and again sonically it is so strong. There are no ticks, clicks or pops and no underlying static either - the playback is so clean and easily deserves a Mint- grade at the very least.
'He's Growing' plays with stunning clarity through every section. Once again the sound quality is incredible and there is only a hint of barely audible static right at the end of the fade out. Mint-
The intro on 'Sticking Wings On Flies' has barely any static and the opening vocal section has no background at all. The brief instrumental bridges have only a hint of very light static and the instrumental end section is superb! Near Mint
'Lady Lady' plays with great power and definition throughout and the clarity of sound cannot be faulted either. For a 56 year old vinyl it really is playing with exceptional quality! Mint-
The quirky 'Penny Dear' plays with impeccable quality and with literally no background. Stunning and Mint
'Long Time, Sad Time, Bad Time' is definitely Hensley channelling his inner rockabilly roots! Very different. From start to finish it plays with real quality and there are no ticks, clicks etc. Perhaps not quite as clean and precise as the other tracks but still a damn good listen! It's probably due to it being a 'busy' more powerful track. Near Mint
'Five To Three' plays so clearly for a quieter track. There is no interference and only a handful of minor statics and a couple of light ticks near the end. Near Mint-
The quiet intro on 'Autumn' has only a little light static and from then onwards plays so well with no interference as such. However, the vocal 'sound' does have that final track 'feel'. I can't really downgrade it because of that and in actual fact the closing instrumental plays with stunning clarity and depth including the fade out. I'll grade the intro as Ex and the remainder as Near Mint

The opening vocal on 'Yes I Cry' plays with wonderful clarity, there are only a couple of minor statics. Near perfect in other words. The first chorus is 'as new' as is the next verse and it continues to plays with sensational quality! The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is on another level here - John Glascock's bass sound is just one reason for the depth, it is so rich and deep. Superb separation throughout also. The closing instrumental a case in point - STUNNING sound and easily a Mint- track. One of the highlights of the album.
The intro on 'Groozy' has a couple of minor statics and the opening vocal is perfect. The chorus is equally as strong and wow just listen to Kerslake's drums, they are so powerful! No surprise I guess. The mid instrumental is outstanding, powerful and so clean with no distortion. The more this track progresses the more I am impressed. The sonic quality is incredible - a very progressive track and the vocal is superb. The crescendo ending just could not play any better, again there is no distortion. This is one STUNNING version! Mint-
The intro on 'Momma I Need' plays with sublime clarity and the opening vocal is equally as strong. This high end standard is kept up and once again I cannot believe just how sharp and precise the audio is. I haven't listened to this album in years and had forgotten just how good it is. This track is another highlight - a great melody and you can almost sense the Uriah Heep style creeping in. Sonically it is phenomenal and Kerslake's drums again are out of this world. In case you didn't know I quite like this track! Every vocal and instrumental section is STUNNING and even the fade out plays with faultless clarity. This is Mint in every way. Incredible production! I'm surprised they didn't nab it for a future Heep album!!
'Candlenight' plays with tremendous power and definition through every section. Purely a Hensley number and you can tell. I cannot fault it and again Mint is 100% deserved. Sorry to repeat myself but if you win this just listen intently to the drums again. Seriously strong work!
'Lovely Anita' ends this fine album with exceptional audio once more. For a final track the sound is so clear and there is nothing that detracts from the audio. If there is any tinny distortion it is kept to an absolute minimum and it definitely grades as Mint- such is the quality. Kerslake showing he could write a really good tune! A stunning album in so many ways.
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The cover is in great condition and has only very minimal wear. The top edge is perfect and the bottom edge is so close to that with just one tiny 'rub'. The spine is in glorious condition! I has kept its shape perfectly and has barely any wear on the corners. The right hand corners have only a little wear and the opening edge is very clean with minimal handling wear also. The laminated front cover is stunning with just some very slight 'rub' next to the opening edge and the back cover is very clean when you consider it isn't laminated. The actual background has barely any marking and only the flipbacks have a little marking on the edges as is common. They all remain firmly in place though. A fine example overall.
The original EMI inner is in superb condition with no side splits or tears and hardly any marking. There is very little creasing also.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
