Even though the Grateful Dead's eponymous debut album is rightly regarded as a psychedelic classic, the band themselves were generally dissatisfied with it because it failed to capture the way they would follow extended improvisations in concert. This, their second long player, sets to put that right by mixing seemingly conventional studio based song structures with some inspired jams and improvisations taken from live recordings. The end result was a revolutionary album that re-defined the long playing record as an artistic musical format of limitless possibilities at the end of the sixties. "Anthem Of The Sun" is literally a psychedelic rollercoaster-ride that has more than stood the test of time!

This particular pressing, despite being well over thirty years of age, is both immaculate and faultless. It shines like a brand new record, with a beautiful deep gloss, and it doesn't display any damage or signs of age and use. A close look doesn't reveal any problems; there are no bad marks evident and the only paper scuffs I could find were of the faintest kind. The spindle area clearly shows a record that has only had three or four plays. The audio clarity is truly great, there's a wealth of depth to the sound here - exactly what you require when you're enjoying classic psychedelic music. All in all, this album couldn't be much better if it had arrived with me still sealed. It's a fantastically well preserved item.

COVER CONDITION: NEAR MINT

This front laminate flip-back cover is quite simply immaculate, it is still fully intact with all the joins still perfectly stuck together and doesn't show any signs of age and use. The front has a beautiful clean gloss with totally un-faded colours while the non-laminated rear sleeve has a predominantly white back ground that is still an amazingly bright white. There are no creases on the front or the back and there are only a couple of the smallest ones in the laminate. All the edges are smooth and pristine while the spine, with some incredibly precise "pinched ends", is sheer un-harmed perfection with completely legible text. There isn't even any ring-wear to mention, this is an album cover from the late sixties/early seventies that is quite simply an incredible example of its type. Fantastic!
