Released in the wake of the Hollies' American breakthrough, Bus Stop is standard British Invasion fare, with the titular Top Ten American hit leading off an album split evenly between pop and American R&B cover songs. As far as the R&B goes, there were English groups that did it much better, from the Stones to the Animals, Yardbirds, and Small Faces. "We're Through" has an arrangement borrowed from the Johnny Rivers hit "Secret Agent Man," not coincidentally recorded for the same label. The most unusual cuts are the cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "I Am a Rock," notable for Graham Nash's high harmony vocals atop Allan Clarke's lead, and "Oriental Sadness," with its piercing chorus vocals by Nash. The best cuts reflect what the group is fondly remembered for: crackling, Merseybeat pop, as in the bouncy "Don't Run and Hide" and the sweet, harmony-laden "Baby That's All."

You know that you are good when (1) Everly Brothers want you to sing YOUR vocal harmonies on one of their albums (this is the equivalent of Steve Jobs asking for your help in running the Apple) and (2) David Crosby and Steven Stills want your lead singer in their band. Well, this is what happened to Hollies, pretty much within a year from the moment this, the most commercially successful Hollies' 1960's album, was issued. The title track alone must be one of the most evocative 1960's anthems, a romantic paean to a summer love affair, and our favorite 60s love song. The rest of the selections are a nice mix of originals, R&B ditties, blue-eyed soul, as well as some Motown covers, all rendered in the Hollies' inimitable vocal style. This is the finest MONO copy we have ever seen (Stereo copies of this album are all fake, "electronically rechanneled" stereo). (a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  (WEAK) NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(d)         Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its FAKE ("electronically rechannelled") stereo counterpart. We estimate that FAKE stereo copies of this album outnumber monos by a ratio of at least 5:1.

(e)         The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(f)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER IS STRONG NEAR MINT,  STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP  (A SMALL PIECE OF SHRINK WRAP IS MISSING)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Minor shelf wear noted on the top seam (nothing significant)

-       Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the bottom seam (BARELY VISIBLE)
