The Mighty Lover
The Ideals really became legendary with Northern Soul fanatics with this song : “The Mighty Lover.” The platter was produced by Jerry-O and released TWICE on the Boo-Ga-Loo label, once as the Ideals, and another time as the Mighty Lovers. They each have different flipsides, and this one’s paired with “Dancing In U.S.A.”
This is really sublime stuff, well worthy of it’s deep reputation, and here’s a nice original 45 in pretty crisp shape. The Ideals (members Reggie Jackson, Leonard Mitchell, Robert Tharp, and Sam Stewart) only hit the charts once, and it wasn’t with this classic – although it’s one of their best, right?
