"THE IDOL" (1962 -TV) RARE PROMO Soundtrack with ERNIE FREEMAN This album contains the highlights of ERNIE FREEMAN's score for "THE IDOL", "the story of a generation reflected in the eyes of a singer from North Dakota. The IDOL in this particular film is BOBBY VEE, a teen-age favourite of the 1960's. The TV documentry was produced and narrated by LEW IRWIN. The camera, under his direction, followed BOBBY VEE from Fargo to the Radio City Music Hall, and it watched his screaming fans as they massed for his appearances in city after city, here and abroad. It was pressed as a PROMOTIONAL LP only, and not intended for broadcast or commercial sale. Composer Ernie Freeman was one of the busiest arranger-conductors of the period, providing backing for artists as diverse as teeny bobbers, rock and rollers and Frank SInatra. (Freeman also had his own big hit with a funky single version of IN THE MOOD). This documentary features the original score Freeman wrote and BOBBY VEE on several vocals...those indicated by ** below. The music is typical of what passed as "teen music" in the first so-called 'Rock'n'Roll' movies of the fifties. As such, it is very much of its time. The LP has no label name (other than IOD) and no number. The cover sheet over the cardboard cover shows some wear at the top and bottom where it was not glued properly, but otherwise it's fine. The vinyl itself is EXCELLENT, with just some light surface marks....NOT scratches. Plays beautifully, and clearly has not been much played, if at all.
