THE ISLEY BROTHERS Shout Parts 1 and 2 RCA 1959
"Shout" is like a tent revival gone haywire, with the merest scraps of a song -- a groove and a few phrases -- igniting a soul explosion the likes of which had never been heard on record. The song was only a minor hit, but has been granted immortality for its exuberance and influence. The album of the same name, the Isley Brothers' full-length debut in 1959, shows what a gulf existed between the Isley and their old-school producers. The menu of standards and white rock & roll songs like "Rock Around the Clock" may have worked well for someone like Brook Benton, but the Isley Brothers' signature raw-edged soul is fully formed here and comes on like gangbusters. I have graded the vinyl Very Good but with a Plus in terms of playback. The vinyl has many play marks and has lost its black shininess over time, but in spite of what I can see under a bright spotlight on the surface, these all appear to be light surface marks that cover the vinyl and yet do not interfere with good playback, more consistent with a record being brought in and out of its sleeve, in those days the harsh paper sleeves with no protective lining. Even in quiet parts of the B side I can hear nothing to interrupt enjoyable listening. As I keep saying in my listings, working with 45s is very different from LPs, in terms of grading, as back in the day when singles first hit the market they were perfect for teens and students, affordable, light, portable. And so often they were stacked in piles, shoved into a glove compartment and thrown about a bit. So I am test playing carefully and grading according to quality of playback, clarity of sound, although of course I describe the condition of the vinyl.
There is a new inner sleeve with a soft lining to protect, as well as a thicker plastic outer and a photographic frontispiece for easy identification when housed in a collection. I must make it clear, however, that THIS IS NOT AN ORIGINAL SLEEVE.

POSTAGE : I prefer to use UPS via eBay, which is a really speedy service, usually arriving overseas within 2-4 days, whereas Royal Mail can take many weeks to arrive. I have a flat rate of £20 which is what it costs to deliver to US and other parts of the World although Europe is around £15. There is only provision for one flat rate and so it is fixed at £20. If you live in Europe please mail me and I will adjust the postage before you buy. In some instances the postage costs more than £20, to further parts of the World and we may need to similarly adjust this, although often I am prepared to pay the difference provided the record isn’t very low value.
