THE JACKIE McLEAN QUINTET – FEATURING DONALD BYRD – JUBILEE 1064 – VG+ - MONO
Recorded on October 21, 1955, this is Jackie McLean’s first recording session for Jubilee. The personnel are as follows: Jackie McLean on alto, Donald Byrd on trumpet, Mal Waldron on piano, Doug Watkins on bass and Ronald Tucker on drums. Their selections are: SIDE ONE: IT’S YOU OR NO ONE; BLUE DOLL and LITTLE MELONAE. SIDE TWO: THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT; MOOD MALODY and LOVER MAN.
I’ve rated this LP as VG+. The surface on the vinyl is clean, but not perfect. There is a very small scuff on Side Two, cut number 3, but it is barely visible. The Jubilee pressings were not the best. There are marks on either side of the spindle hole. The cover is in good to nearly excellent condition. There is one small taped seam on the lower right corner of the cover. There appears to be some discoloration on the very bottom of the cover, which you can see on the photo below. The liner notes are clean, except that someone has written 4X’s on the top left corner of the liner notes and 5X’s after “Little Melonae” on the liner notes as well. This is a Mono recording. If you have any questions, please email me and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks.
