1930s rare blues tracks
In 1930 thousands of cases of muscle pain, weakness of upper and lower extremities and minimal sensory impairment occurred in the United States. It was caused by drinking an adulterated Jamaica ginger extract called ‘Jake’ which was a way of getting around the prohibition on liquor during prohibition. Victims with such impairment referred to having the ‘Jake Leg’ or ‘Jake Walk.’
Naturally, it made it into the blues songs of the era, and here’s a collection of those tunes from Stash Records. On the back of the jacket are superbly detailed notes about the source material of each and every song.
This vintage blues album is from the personal collection of blues researcher / writer Mack McCormick and is being sold to raise some needed funds for the Texas Musicians Museum. We appreciate any help in our mission to preserve music.
