The Knowbody Else
'S/T'
HIP, USA, 1969
HIS 7003
VERY RARE late sixties psych album from this band who would later go on to become heavy southern rockers Black Oak Arkansas. Features Jim Dandy (AKA James Mangrum) on vocals, Harvey Jett & Rick Reynolds on guitar and bassist Pat Daughty - all future members of BOA.
Amazingly the band, based in New Orleans, signed a record deal with Stax who placed them on their a spin-off label called HIP to reflect the fact that they weren't black or indeed another r 'n b band. This label pre-dated Stax's official 'rock' company, the infamous Rare Earth Records set up a couple of years later.
Music is killer late sixties psych with all the right moves - fuzz guitar, great yet disturbed vocals (in fact I would say that this is probably Jim's best ever work), captivating arrangements and a a real weird late sixties vibe ala the Doors.
Extremely hard to find and never in this kind of condition. Great album and highly recommended.
Pressing: HIP, USA, 1969
Vinyl: Superb clean condition. No spindle marks and no signs of use - I would say unplayed! Grades as archive MINT!
