Gorgeous Full Gloss Vinyl is just shy of NM with few very faint sleeve hairlines, viewed in hard bright light. 1st issue PINK RIM Labels are super-clean both sides.

Snakeskin-textured soft UK cover with embossed titles ("METERS" and "CISSY STRUT") is snapping bright and spanking clean with mere touch of tiny ring crescent at very top. Vivid and unfaded with one lightly bumped corner tip; others sharp. No creases, soil, cut-out, dings or other marks. Seams and spine completely intact with no wear or splits.

THE METERS defined New Orleans funk, not only on their own recordings, but also as the backing band for numerous artists, including many produced by Allen Toussaint.

CISSY STRUT, issued in 1974, is packed with seminal, signature New Orleans Funk, steeped in the Crescent City's deep and broad R&B, Soul, Bayou Funk, Jazz and swamp Blues heritage - filtered and coalesced into the METERS own landmark style, approach and the collective genius of Art and Cyril Neville, Leo Nocentelli, George Porter and Zigabo Modeliste - and one must include - guiding light Allen Toussaint.

The material here compiles the Meters' legendary early hits for JOSIE Records in 1969-1972, overseen by Toussaint and Marshall Sehorn.

"Sophisticated Cissy" and "Cissy Strut" became Top Ten R&B hits in the spring of 1969, followed by the hits "Look-Ka Py Py" and "Chicken Strut" a year later. From there The Meters never looked back, gaining steam, acclaim and an unparalleled reputation in and out of the studio for there own string of hits and their many contributions to records by the likes of Earl King, Lee Dorsey, Chris Kenner, Robert Palmer, Betty Harris among others, and of course, Allen Toussaint himself - the producer of most of The Meters' most beloved records.
